Chapter 115 Analysis
Chapter 115 Analysis
The air in the ward still carried a faint scent of medicine and the warmth of the sunshine.
But the deafening cheer from just now still buzzed in Midouzi's ears.
She was completely stunned by the sudden, extremely loud noise from Seonil, her eyes slightly glazed over, and she sat blankly by Seonil's hospital bed.
All I could hear was Zenitsu's incessant chatter, sometimes crying about how scared he was when he was poisoned, sometimes talking about how much he missed her, and sometimes complaining that the medicine from the Butterfly House was too bitter and the bandages were too tight.
The words flowed into my ears like a continuous stream.
She had no time to react and could only sit there blankly.
Tanjiro leaned back in his chair, looking at his sister's bewildered expression, then turned to Zenitsu, who was gesticulating wildly and spitting as he lay on the bed, and gave a wry smile.
He himself had just gone through the turmoil of the Zhuhe Conference and was still somewhat exhausted, both physically and mentally.
At this moment, all I could do was quietly watch the two of them, letting the noisy warmth gradually soothe the tension in my heart.
Just then, on another hospital bed, Inosuke Hashibira, who had been lying in a coma with his eyes closed, suddenly uttered three words in a hoarse and impatient voice, piercing the noise of the room.
"It's so noisy."
Zenitsu's hearing was far superior to that of ordinary people; no matter how soft the sound was, it could not escape his ears.
He abruptly stopped his rambling, his face darkened, and he almost instinctively wanted to jump up and start arguing with Inosuke.
But out of the corner of her eye, she saw Ni Douzi standing beside her, her eyes glazed over, still not quite recovered.
He swallowed the angry curse that was on the tip of his tongue, his cheeks flushed red, and he could only glare angrily in Inosuke's direction, daring not to speak out.
He couldn't lose his composure in front of Mi Douzi, and he certainly couldn't appear rude.
But this restraint lasted less than three seconds before Inosuke broke the peace once again.
He slowly turned his neck, his wild green eyes locking onto Tanjiro:
"Tanpachiro, you can show up during the day now?"
These words were like a pebble, instantly shattering the delicate atmosphere in the ward.
Zenitsu also snapped out of his daze, only then belatedly realizing that when Tanjiro and Nezuko pushed open the door, the midday sun was shining brightly outside the window, without any obstruction or shadow.
He was so engrossed in the joy of seeing Midouzi that he completely overlooked the most crucial and mind-blowing event.
He immediately withdrew his gaze from Inosuke and turned to stare intently at Tanjiro. His playful expression vanished instantly, replaced by deep worry and unease, and his voice trembled slightly.
"Tanjiro, are you really alright in this state? Won't the sunlight burn you?"
Tanjiro looked at his two comrades who had fought side by side, and his nose clearly caught the scent of worry emanating from them.
A warmth filled his heart, and a gentle smile slowly spread across his face as he shook his head softly.
"No, sunlight has no effect on me anymore."
"..."
The ward fell silent.
Zenitsu and Inosuke froze simultaneously, their expressions frozen, as if they had heard something unbelievable.
Inosuke was the first to react, but was immediately overwhelmed by a strong sense of frustration.
He has always been competitive and always thought he was the strongest, always wanting to surpass Tanjiro.
But now, Tanjiro has become an existence that even the sun cannot kill, an anomaly that he can never catch up with.
He let out a muffled groan, as if he had suffered a great blow, slowly lay back down on the bed, turned his face to the wall, and muttered a sentence in a gruff voice.
"What a freak, even the sun can't kill you, you're boring."
After saying that, he ignored everyone else, leaving only a stubborn back view.
Zenitsu, unlike Inosuke, did not feel only novelty or frustration.
He learned Thunder Breathing from his grandfather since childhood, was well-versed in the Demon Slayer Corps' scriptures, and had heard countless legends and secrets about demons. He knew the nature of demons and their weaknesses better than anyone else.
That's human nature; the more you understand something, the more afraid you become.
Tanjiro's ability to overcome sunlight is seen by others as a miracle, an invincible asset.
But in Zenitsu's eyes, it was a sharp sword hanging over Tanjiro's head, ready to fall at any moment and tear him to shreds.
The joy on his face vanished completely, replaced by an intense, unyielding solemnity.
He leaned forward slightly, lowered his voice, and asked, word by word, his tone filled with suppressed fear and worry.
"Tanjiro, do you know what your current state means?"
Tanjiro looked at Zenitsu's unusually serious expression, his heart sank slightly, and he gently shook his head.
"What demons fear most is never the Nichirin Blade, nor the poison of wisteria flowers, but sunlight."
Tanjiro's pupils contracted slightly, and his fingertips clenched unconsciously.
"All demons are subject to sunlight. Whether it's an Upper Moon or a Lower Moon, even Muzan himself can only appear in the dark. Once they are touched by sunlight, they will turn to ashes."
Zenitsu took a deep breath and continued.
"You have now accomplished what Muzan could never do in his entire life. You are the first demon to walk, survive, and fight in the sunlight; you are an anomaly who has broken all the rules."
At this moment, Midouzi, who had been in a daze, finally came to her senses and slowly raised her head.
Zenitsu looked at Tanjiro, his tone extremely heavy.
"Muzan has always dreamed of walking freely in the sunlight. He wanted to break free from the constraints of sunlight, to rule day and night, and to become an existence above all else. And Tanjiro, you... possess the ability he most desired and longed for."
Mi Douzi's face turned deathly pale instantly, and her little hands gripped the hem of her clothes tightly, her knuckles turning white.
She finally understood that her brother overcoming the sun was never something to be purely thankful for.
This miracle was not a protective shield, but a death warrant.
Zenitsu stopped abruptly halfway through his sentence, looking at Tanjiro with worry almost overflowing in his eyes. The rest of his words were unnecessary to say; everyone understood.
Tanjiro slowly lowered his eyes, his long eyelashes concealing the turbulent emotions within them, and the temperature around him gradually dropped.
He raised his head, his once gentle eyes now filled with icy rage.
"Then he will relentlessly hunt me down, using every means at his disposal, until he finds me, captures me, devours me, and completely possesses the secret within me that allows me to overcome the sunlight."
The air in the ward froze instantly, and a chilling cold spread through every inch of the air, completely swallowing up the warmth and noise from before.
Nezuko's face turned completely cold. Muzan, the culprit who destroyed her and her brother's family, would continue to hunt down her brother.
"Since that's the case, Muzan, then let's go. We also have a score to settle." Nezuko thought coldly to herself.
Just then, on another hospital bed, Inosuke, who had been facing away from everyone and seemed to be sulking and ignoring them, suddenly turned over and looked at Tanjiro with bright green eyes, speaking in a domineering yet self-righteous tone.
"Tanpachiro, be my underling! I'll protect you from now on! Anyone who dares to capture you, I'll chop them all to pieces!"
