Jack Judd shook his head dejectedly. Aaron Cheney grinned. "Well, there you have it. Nothing can happen to the boss’s lady, and I’m the one taking care of her. So if something really goes wrong, you’ll just have to be the sacrifice."
Jack Judd reached out and smacked him on the head, only to realize with dismay that he couldn’t think of a comeback.
Aaron Cheney didn’t get mad about the smack. He just grinned cheekily at Jack Judd.
Vera Xavier overheard them and said simply, "We’re not going to lose."
Neither Jack Judd nor Aaron Cheney found this very convincing, but they were on her side, so of course they wouldn’t say anything to discourage her. They both put on a show of encouragement for Vera Xavier. "The boss’s lady is right! We won’t lose!"
