Chapter 57 Silver Ring
Chapter 57 Silver Ring
In the darkness, Su Zixu suddenly opened his eyes. The surroundings were eerily quiet. His heart pounded and he broke out in a cold sweat.
At this moment, Su Zixu was not fully awake, but he was aware that he was lying in his own bedroom.
Su Zixu subconsciously moved his right hand and was secretly relieved to find it was intact.
At the moment he was awakened by the nightmare, Su Zixu only remembered that his right arm was gone, and he could not quite remember what he dreamed about.
Sleepiness continued to overwhelm him, and Su Zixu was too lazy to think any further. He felt very tired, so he closed his eyes again and quickly fell asleep once more.
When he woke up again, sunlight was already streaming through the gaps in the curtains, and a beam of light shone on Su Zixu's face. He frowned and turned over, and just as he did, the alarm clock went off.
After turning off his phone alarm, Su Zixu lingered in bed for another five minutes before reluctantly sitting up.
Su Zixu slept very restlessly, frowning and rubbing his tight temples.
He still felt extremely tired, but unfortunately it wasn't the weekend and he still had work to do.
After a quick wash and a simple breakfast, the drowsiness gradually subsided.
While changing clothes, Su Zixu heard a crisp sound, as if something had fallen to the ground.
He bent down to look for the sound and found the object had rolled under the bed. It was a small item, shaped like a ring.
Su Zixu reached out and pulled out the ring, examining it carefully in his hand.
"A ring?" he wondered.
This is a plain silver band ring with a smooth outer edge. If you look closely, you can see some flowing, shimmering material inside the ring.
The inner band of the ring is engraved with a circle of small characters, including numbers and letters.
However, Su Zixu didn't have time to study it at this moment, after all, they were oxen and horses, and he still had to make money.
After putting the ring into the breast pocket of his suit, Su Zixu left the house.
After being stuck in traffic all the way, Su Zixu arrived at the law firm and began to organize the documents and materials for the court hearing that afternoon.
Su Zixu is a lawyer who has been working for three years. He feels more comfortable at his workplace in his hometown than in a foreign land.
His colleagues and elders were willing to mentor him and teach him skills, unlike some companies in big cities that only exploit newcomers.
Although he wasn't in good shape today, he likes his job, so he will do his best to fulfill the client's request.
During lunch, Su Zixu chatted with his colleagues and talked about his nightmare from the previous night.
But a whole morning had passed, and the images in my memory were becoming even more blurry.
He could only recount fragmented details, and his colleagues laughed it off, completely ignoring what he was saying.
However, Su Zixu knew in his heart that this dream was quite different from his previous dreams; he felt that this dream was very real.
It was already past five o'clock when I left the courthouse in the afternoon.
Su Zixu returned to his office and organized the documents he would need for next week. By the time he finished organizing everything, it was already past six o'clock in the evening.
Today is Friday, so I can have a good rest for the next two days.
Su Zixu sat at his workstation and took out the silver ring to play with.
However, the longer he looked at it, the more uneasy he felt, because he knew very well that he never wore rings or bought these kinds of trinkets.
The house I live in is my own, but this ring looks like it fell out of my pajamas pocket.
Is someone inside? Or has someone sneaked into my residence?
Upon closer reflection, a chilling feeling crept over me.
"Oh, who is this for?"
A young man with a side-parted hairstyle joked with a smile.
A colleague's voice interrupted Su Zixu's thoughts.
"No, no, it fell out of my pocket when I was changing clothes this morning," Su Zixu said, then handed the ring to his colleague who seemed interested in it.
Under the light, tiny specks of light seemed to be moving inside the silver ring, which was quite beautiful.
As he watched, the man became engrossed, and Su Zixu called him several times before he finally came to his senses.
"It doesn't really look like it's made of silver, but it's still quite pretty," my colleague said after scratching his head for a while.
"Mingzhe, Zixu, are you two busy tonight? How about we go out for dinner together? It's on me."
The speaker was Director Wang from the law firm.
Because of the director's arrival, Su Zixu and his colleagues hastily ended their conversation, and Su Zixu put the ring back into his breast pocket.
"Okay, Director. Anyway, I don't have anything to do tonight. It depends on Zixu and the others. If there are a lot of people, we can go sing karaoke after dinner."
Mingzhe's eyes lit up at the mention of getting free food and entertainment.
"Go have fun! I can be back anytime." Su Zixu smiled and readily agreed.
Su Zixu really liked his workplace; his colleagues were all lovely people.
There was no infighting among them; everyone used their wits to their advantage, making the workplace atmosphere incredibly comfortable.
About ten minutes later, led by their leader, the group of six left the workplace together.
After having freeloaded off the boss's meal, Shao Mingzhe suggested they also go to a karaoke bar, and everyone else chimed in.
