More than 150 Ghost Rhodes are planned to be upgraded to Wraiths. The Wraiths, a Tier 3 unit in Necropolis, have a very special ability after being upgraded: they can steal the mana of enemy heroes.
The ghost absorbs two MP from the enemy hero each round, with no bonus to the amount absorbed during the game.
In the real world of Azeroth, however, it can steal the mana of mage players, and every wraith has this ability.
They can also join the team during the surprise attack; these guys' abilities can wear down a wave of Burning Legion's Eredar mages.
The greatest threat to Rhodes comes from these Eredar mages.
They are the true commanders of the Burning Legion. Because both of their races are second only to Sargeras, the Eredar hold very high positions in the Legion, with the lowest rank being a mid-level officer.
These Eredar mages can cast spells such as summoning hellfire and all sorts of fel magic, making them far more powerful than warlocks in Azeroth.
The liches have excellent ranged attack capabilities and are just as lethal in melee combat, but their numbers are somewhat limited. Rhode plans to have them wait at a ranged position to cast spells.
There are more than 80 vampire kings in total. Rhodes tested these vampire kings and found that they did not have the ability to transform ordinary Azerothian life into their own kind.
Instead, it possesses a resurrection ability, which allows it to steal the life energy of living units and then revive its own companions. The amount of life energy a companion can revive is proportional to the amount of life energy a companion can revive.
This unit is also very effective in reality; its combat power is terrifying when it launches a surprise attack as a group.
The Vampire King has an attack and defense of 10, health of 40, and speed of 9. It is very agile and can recover from injuries to living units as long as no units are killed.
Rhodes planned to have this force launch a frontal assault on the Eredar mage. After the Eredar mage's magical power was absorbed by the wraiths, the vampire king's forces were to quickly follow up and kill him.
The remaining force consisted of the Dark Knights. Rhode used all the system gold he had accumulated to upgrade them all into Terror Knights.
Building the Elemental City and recruiting previous troops have completely depleted Rhodes's system's gold units. This battle will be the final one, but as long as the war ends, Rhodes will receive a generous reward.
After arranging the troops in the Cemetery City, Rhodes looked at another Elemental City, the one he was focusing his efforts on developing.
Currently, all buildings for units of levels 1-6 have been upgraded. The level 7 Phoenix Nest doesn't yet have enough resources, and the Treasure Shop hasn't been built. (Only one Congress and one Council can be built in each city, so the daily income is only 6500 gold units.)
Rhodes has very few troops in Elemental City, only about 300 in total. More than 150 of them are large butterfly elves, which are about 1.6 meters tall, have butterfly wings, and wear blue dresses. They are very fast, but their only weakness is that their attack, defense, and health are relatively low.
However, these large blue discs have a special ability: in the game, they are immune to counterattacks, while in reality, being attacked by these discs will result in a state of paralysis.
After the attack ends, the giant butterfly will immediately fly away to avoid being counterattacked.
There are over 30 lightning elementals and the same number of ice elementals; the weekly production of these two unit types is basically the same.
Rhodes grouped these ranged units with the liches, and their priority targets were also the Eredar mages.
The remaining dozens of fire elementals and a dozen or so stone elementals—these guys will probably have to serve as cannon fodder later!
They can't even beat the Iron Man in melee combat; they're pure iron trash. Upgraded units with the four elements can use magical arts of controlling air, water, fire, and earth.
Rhode exposed these units directly to Jaina, Uther, and the others, casting magical defenses on the elemental troops and his other minions.
Their ability to resist magic from all four elements is greatly enhanced.
"Are these other elemental units? Rhodes was also summoned by you, but I feel like they're a bit different from the fire elemental units?" The two female mages, Kaponia and Jaina, walked over and said.
The elemental's appearance had turned blue, and its body shone with blue energy waves like lightning, which was very similar to the one summoned by Kael'thas. The water elemental, or rather the ice elemental, was completely different from the water elemental he had summoned. Its appearance was more like a giant murloc, but its whole body radiated the power of ice.
As for the lightning elementals, mages in Azeroth have never summoned them, and the same goes for the stone elementals. Perhaps shamans can call upon these elemental beings to aid them in battle, but their appearance is different from that of those summoned by Rhodes.
“These are powerful elemental creatures brought by the Titans. They are different from the elemental creatures we summon; they can exist forever,” Rhodes said.
Elemental units were originally meant to exist permanently, but the spell to summon elements was changed for some reason to prevent players from exploiting bugs.
However, in the pursuit of miracles, it becomes a permanent summoning ability, but at the cost of more than 10 times the mana, and can only be used once a day.
"It can exist permanently, how amazing! This is truly an elemental life form," Gina exclaimed in admiration.
“Yes, the magic the Titans possess is far beyond our comprehension,” Uther said, walking over as well.
Although I've summoned Holy Light Elements many times, I still have no clue how to make them exist permanently, or how to use them without relying on magic scrolls.
“These permanent elemental entities are very worthy of study, Rhodes. Magic scrolls alone may not achieve the best results. Combining these permanent elemental entities with magic scrolls is the optimal solution. You can give them to His Highness for a look,” Caponia said.
In recent days, she has also obtained fire elemental summoning scrolls from Rhodes several times, but unfortunately, just like with His Highness the Prince, she is completely clueless about them.
Perhaps these elemental creatures that can exist forever are the true embodiment of this magic. With Your Highness's expertise in fire magic, you should be able to figure out the principle behind it.
This is different from the magic of the world of Azeroth; it can definitely be accomplished.
Medivh, standing to the side, nodded in agreement, but as a guardian, he saw through some of Rhodes's little tricks.
For example, the Titan Guardian who supposedly came to help them was incredibly powerful and had a majestic appearance, far beyond what ordinary people could imagine.
However, it is still slightly inferior to the true Titan Guardians. This difference lies not only in combat power but also in intelligence.
The Titan Guardian summoned by Rhodes should have developed self-awareness if it had been infused with energy by the Titans themselves, but unfortunately, it is more like a prototype of a Titan Guardian.
It was as if it had just been created; it had no self-awareness and was being manipulated, just like Rhodes manipulated other elemental units and those metal anti-magic construct units.
Medivh was now quite curious about what was behind Rhodes! Could it really be because of the Titans?
The problem is that all the Titans who existed forever should have been killed in that war. What mysterious entity is behind Rhodes?
However, Medivh did not expose the powerful Titan creation that Rhodes summoned. Perhaps one day, after a real Titan imbues it with intelligence, he will become a true guardian.
But now, it's just a powerful puppet creation.
"Lord Medivh, from now on you just stand on the mountaintop and use Thunderbolt. If the fire elemental army is completely wiped out..."
"Then you can summon the elementals again. These elementals can be summoned repeatedly, but only after all the elementals you summoned previously have disappeared." Rhodes nodded to Medivh and said.
In this battle, Rhode entrusted both magic scrolls to Medivh, the guardian who was currently the only one capable of maximizing their value.
“Leave it to me, Rhodes.” Medivh nodded and carefully accepted the two magic scrolls from Rhodes.
Although there are only two magic scrolls, one a summoning spell and the other an attack spell, with the Guardian's powerful magic, it can make the Burning Legion's demons pay a terrible price.
After handing over the magic scroll, Rhodes released two giant ballistae on either side of the mountaintop. These were products of the blacksmith shop in Elemental City.
It's equivalent to a level 6 minion, with pretty good ranged attack capabilities, and being a magical creation, it can attack without being controlled by anyone else.
The only downside is that the ballista is quite expensive, costing a full 2500 gold coins, and each hero can only carry one. Rhodes bought one for himself and one for Somra.
“These two ballistae are also powerful Titan magical creations. They can attack automatically, so you don’t need to worry about them. On the mountaintop, they are mobile artillery emplacements,” Rhodes said.
Everyone nodded in agreement; they were already quite used to Rhode's occasional Titan magical artifacts.
At this moment, a large number of ghouls, skeletons, zombies, and cave demons, along with other undead creatures, at the foot of the mountain, launched their first wave of attacks, driven by the demons of the Burning Legion.
Chapter 143 The Battle of Mount Hyjal: A Fierce Battle
At the foot of the mountain, a tide of gray-green undead surged forth.
Ghouls crawled on all fours, emitting sharp howls, their eye sockets burning with eerie blue soul fire; sluggish, rotting zombies emitted a nauseating stench; skeleton soldiers, with hollow eye sockets, silently advanced, wielding rusty swords, their bones grinding together with a chilling "clack-clack" sound; interspersed among them were some enormous, grotesque cave-dwelling demons.
In addition, there is an abomination that is like a mountain of flesh, wielding a giant scythe and whose body is entirely stitched together from pieces of flesh.
"That's a lot..." Jaina gripped her staff tightly, her face turning pale.
Even after experiencing the tragedy of Stratholme and the Battle of Andorhal, the sight of such a massive undead army still fills me with dread.
“They are nothing but cannon fodder driven away by the Burning Legion,” Uther said in a deep voice, Holy Light surging within him, dispelling the unease in his heart.
"For the glory of the Holy Light, we will never retreat!"
"Friends, prepare to meet the enemy!" Rhodes shouted, launching a blue magic arrow first.
He blasted the two Abominations in the front row into pieces. As his strength attribute increased, the power of the magic he unleashed became more and more terrifying. Previously, a single magic lightning bolt could only kill one Abomination, but now Rhodes' magic was a direct area-of-effect attack. While killing two Abominations, some undead creatures in the surrounding area were also wiped out.
Following closely behind Rhodes in launching the attack was Medivh, who stood atop the mountain. The Guardian raised his staff high, channeling powerful magic into the Thunderbolt Scroll.
In an instant, dark clouds gathered above the first line of defense, and lightning crackled wildly.
"Boom!!!"
A massive bolt of lightning tore through the sky, like a divine spear of judgment, striking precisely the densest area of the undead army.
A deafening explosion rang out, sending dirt and bone fragments flying everywhere. A violent electric current spread across the ground, instantly clearing a large area. At least a hundred low-level undead were reduced to ashes by this attack, along with abominations and cave demons.
This terrifying blow halted the undead's charge, and even the demons driving them from behind roared in surprise and uncertainty.
The demons of the Burning Legion clearly did not expect that there would be such a powerful mage on the first line of defense.
"The power of the Guardians... truly lives up to its reputation," Caponia exclaimed.
This is only casting the spell using Rhodes' magic scroll; if it were a Guardian in his prime, he could connect to the magic network of Azeroth.
How powerful must that be? It is said that the Guardian can destroy thousands of demons of the Burning Legion with a single blow, and even Sargeras's avatar was defeated by the Guardian.
The Guardians' combat power is even comparable to that of Archimonde and Kil'jaeden, commanders of the Burning Legion.
"Conserve your mana, Lord Medivh, focus on the big guys behind us!" Rhodes shouted, knowing this was just the appetizer.
After a brief pause, the undead army surged forward again at the demons' urging. They trampled over the remains of their comrades and charged fearlessly toward the allied positions.
The magical traps that Rhodes had set up were triggered at this moment. The first to unleash their power was the Fire Wall. With Rhodes's current magical power, these Fire Walls could exist for several hours. Low-level undead along the way would be burned to death instantly, and even high-level undead would not be able to cross them.
"call--!"
A wall of raging flames suddenly rose from the ground, blocking the path of the undead charge. The ghouls and skeletons at the forefront were instantly ignited, letting out shrill screams in the flames before quickly turning into charred remains.
Several Scourge liches charged out, unleashing terrifying cold power—freezing nova, death and decay—as they attempted to extinguish the fiery wall set up by Rhodes.
With a thought, Rod triggered a series of pre-planted landmines to explode.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
The continuous explosions shattered the undead formation, scattering limbs and fragments everywhere. The liches who were casting ice magic were also blown to pieces.
However, the scale of the Sea of Death was simply too enormous. As those in front fell, those behind immediately filled the gaps. They withstood the damage from the magical traps and approached the defensive line step by step.
Just then, the Titan, who stood a full twenty meters tall, made his move. His blue energy sword flashed with an arc of electricity, and a massive bolt of lightning struck the undead camp.
This attack wasn't as flashy or terrifying as Medivh's previous lightning, but it was still incredibly effective, killing at least a dozen undead with a single strike.
Meanwhile, the Titans relentlessly unleashed lightning attacks. Unlike the turn-based system in the game, Rhodes' ranged units can now attack continuously as long as they have ammunition.
The only pity is that Rhodes didn't get a supply truck. If he had a supply truck, the Titan would have been incredibly powerful. The Titan only has 24 rounds of ammunition, and it would be finished after that.
"Elemental Legion, advance!" Rhodes ordered. The Titans' primary objective was to intimidate such a massive giant, which would surely attract the Burning Legion's attention.
More than two hundred fire elemental creatures let out a deep roar, their bodies crackling with intense orange flames, and they actively faced the sea of undead. Fire has a natural advantage over the undead, and each swing of the fire elementals ignited large numbers of enemies, burning many undead creatures to ashes.
Holy light elements followed closely behind, radiating a dazzling golden light. Their holy energy purified the filth of the undead, and the low-ranking undead touched by the holy light melted away like snow.
Holy Light elements are quite lethal to both demons and the undead. Before the battle began, Rhodes had given the order that once the Holy Light elements were low on health, they should immediately rush into the undead horde and explode.
The metal defense line composed of Iron Men, Gold Men, and Diamond Men was like a dam, firmly withstanding the onslaught of the undead. They were tireless and incredibly strong; with each punch, they could smash several skeletons, flatten zombies, and shatter abominations.
