Her answer was concise, but her tone wasn't particularly relaxed.
Clearly, even for a Pillar, facing an Upper Moon demon is no easy task.
Nami asked directly:
"And what about you? A candidate for Water Pillar, what are your chances of defeating a Lower Moon Demon?"
"Do your best."
Saeko Busujima's answer was still brief, but it carried the decisiveness of a martial artist.
She turned her head and looked at Zhou Ye.
"Teacher Zhou, you seem quite unfamiliar with the Demon Slayer Corps and demons. Doesn't your 'organization' deal with these supernatural threats?"
Here it comes, a reverse probe.
Zhou Ye thought to himself, "Saeko Busujima really has a lot of schemes. Takashi Komuro from the original Highschool of the Dead is not even worthy of carrying her shoes."
"Nami and I are just ordinary people who have gained superpowers. We were hired by HCF, a rival company of Umbrella, to come here to find trade secrets. Who knew we would run into these bastards? Damn it."
As Zhou Ye spoke, he angrily slammed his hand on the steering wheel.
Saeko Busujima nodded thoughtfully, seemingly processing the information.
"Raccoon City, and the unusual outbreak in the Arklay Mountains... all of this is inextricably linked to the Umbrella Corporation."
She refocused her attention on the task at hand.
"My mission, besides dealing with the Lower Moon demons, is also to investigate whether there is any connection between Umbrella and the demons."
Zhou Ye raised an eyebrow.
"You mean, Umbrella might be using ghosts, or... cooperating with ghosts?"
This guess sent chills down his spine.
A bio-virus from the technology side, plus a ghost with a slightly stronger presence... if you put these together, you could call it a low-end version of the Nurgle faction.
"This possibility cannot be ruled out."
Saeko Busujima spoke in a serious tone.
"Kibutsuji Muzan, the Demon King, has been seeking various methods to overcome sunlight. Umbrella's biotechnology might appeal to him. Moreover, Umbrella's related biotechnology companies are relentlessly pursuing immortality. One wants to overcome sunlight, and the other wants immortality; the chances of them combining are very high."
Zhou Ye nodded. Before entering the instance world, he had occasionally heard Bai Qiu talk about how those human tycoons and high-ranking officials who pursued longevity would do things that were like knowingly walking into a tiger's den. It wouldn't be surprising if this happened in this world.
The armored vehicle drove along the rugged mountain road, heading towards the Western-style mansion hidden in the mountains, getting closer and closer.
Zhou Ye observed the mansion in the distance through the bulletproof glass of the armored vehicle.
The Gothic architectural style appears gloomy and oppressive in the twilight.
The surrounding woods were dense and eerily quiet; not even the chirping of insects or the calls of birds could be heard.
It was so quiet it was unsettling.
Chapter 11: The Belated Main Quest, Jill Valentine
"Be careful."
Zhou Ye slowed down the car to remind Saeko Busujima.
"Something feels off about this place. Look around, there are dead zombies, zombie dogs, and bio-weapons."
Saeko Busujima nodded, having already drawn her wooden sword and was holding it in her hand.
In the dimly lit carriage, the blade gleamed with a cold metallic luster; although it was a wooden sword, it still exuded a chilling aura.
"The aura of ghosts is very strong."
Her eyes were fixed sharply ahead.
"It's more complicated than we expected."
The armored vehicle continued forward and finally entered the courtyard of the mansion.
The courtyard was overgrown with weeds, and the stone pavement was covered with cracks, clearly indicating that it had not been maintained for a long time.
A faint stench of decay permeated the air, slightly different from the zombie smell I had smelled outside the train, but equally nauseating.
Zhou Ye parked his car in front of a building that looked fairly intact.
"arrive."
He turned off the engine, and the car immediately fell silent, with only the soft breathing of the three people audible.
"get off?"
"Hmm, maybe someone has already arrived ahead of us. I even saw the reflective bullet casings."
Tsk, this place is incredibly sprawling, with interconnected pathways and an enormous area. If it weren't for the occasional glimpse of zombie corpses and scattered bullet casings, Zhou Ye seriously doubted the three of them would have gotten lost. Do you think the designer of this mansion had a slightly different thought process than most people?
"Be careful."
Zhou Ye lowered his voice to remind him.
Nami nodded, looking somewhat nervous.
Just then, a rustling sound came from the doorway ahead. The three immediately stopped and quickly adjusted their formation. Zhou Ye pulled a military shield from his system space and placed it at the front. This thing could still hold its own in a critical moment. Moreover, a thin energy shield was attached to the front of the shield.
Nami followed closely behind, her Remington shotgun already loaded and ready to fire. Saeko Busujima silently replaced her wooden sword with a real one, its blade gleaming and extremely sharp.
As they explored the rooms, they discovered that there was a light source in one of the first-floor rooms.
As they approached, they noticed the door wasn't fully closed, only partially ajar. They could see a figure with dark brown hair, wearing a beret and a Raccoon City police uniform, bending over and rummaging through drawers and cabinets, searching for something.
"Jill Valentine?"
Zhou Ye blurted out almost immediately. This outfit, combined with this scene, who else in the Resident Evil series could it be? Jill Valentine, one of the leading ladies who rivals Ada Wong!
"Someone's there? Who!"
Hearing the noise, Jill turned around abruptly.
Hey!
That reaction speed is truly impressive.
He now held an M9 pistol, its dark muzzle pointed directly at Zhou Ye at the door.
Her movements were clean and efficient, without the slightest hesitation, and her face was full of vigilance.
"Don't be nervous, it's a human, not a zombie."
Zhou Ye quickly raised his shield and held it in front of him, while slightly turning his body to the side so that Jill could also see Nami and Saeko Busujima behind him.
He indicated that he meant no harm.
"Put down your weapons! Who are you people?" Jill's voice carried a professional alertness, her gun remaining firmly planted.
This girl is something else!
Zhou Ye muttered to himself.
As expected of STARS' elite.
"We're here to investigate this godforsaken place too."
Zhou Ye tried his best to make his voice sound harmless, "My name is Zhou Ye, and these two are my companions, Nami and Saeko Busujima."
He pointed to the two people behind him.
Nami gripped her shotgun tightly, showing no intention of handing it over.
Saeko Busujima simply gripped the hilt of her sword and stood there, exuding a rather imposing aura.
Jill's gaze swept quickly over the three of them.
Zhou Ye, Nami, and Saeko Busujima were all wearing uniforms from Fujimi Academy, a famous private school in Raccoon City, but they were holding various weapons, which looked rather strange.
"Investigation? You're not police, nor are you Umbrella's men."
Jill's brow furrowed even more.
Saeko Busujima then stepped forward and said:
"I'm a Water Pillar candidate from the Demon Slayer Corps, here to investigate any demons that might appear. As for Mr. Shu and Mr. Tohsaka, let them speak for themselves."
Zhou Ye explained:
"Nami and I just came to see if there was anything of value here, so we could earn some extra money."
He felt it was better to tell the truth, or at least part of the truth.
Dealing with such shrewd people makes it easy to be caught lying.
"Earn extra money?"
Jill clearly didn't believe it.
"This place is in the middle of nowhere, and you've come all the way to a Western-style mansion deep in the Akurey Mountains to make some extra money?"
The doubt in her voice was almost palpable.
"And how did you get in? The monsters outside..."
"We have our own way."
Zhou Ye pointed to his head.
"The brain, and this."
He patted the shield.
"Just kill the zombies outside. Compared to ghosts, these are just a warm-up."
Saeko Busujima spoke abruptly, her voice calm yet carrying a sense of unquestionable killing intent.
Jill's attention was immediately drawn to Saeko Busujima.
