Standing behind, Chu Hang knew clearly that it wasn't physical damage, but rather that the chaotic magic had conceptually erased the existence of that small piece of matter.
“That’s not the point.” Banner adjusted his glasses and pointed to the rapidly scrolling data stream on the screen. “In this fragment, there’s a small piece of its core data. Before it was stripped away, it was accessing a database, a highly encrypted private database.”
"Can it be tracked?" Natasha asked immediately.
“Of course! I am Tony Stark!” Tony’s fingers typed the last command on the virtual keyboard, with a sense of vengeful pleasure.
On the screen, a name and a photo of an intellectual Asian woman were instantly enlarged.
“Dr. Helen Zhao,” Tony read the name aloud, “a world-leading genetic biologist whose research focuses on…tissue regeneration.”
“She invented a device called the ‘Regeneration Cradle’.” Banner pulled up another document, and a high-tech medical pod filled with blue nutrient solution appeared on the screen. “Theoretically, it can regenerate any human organ, even… a complete body.”
The laboratory was completely silent.
Everyone understood Ultron's plan, and a chill ran from the soles of their feet to the top of their heads.
“A body made of flesh and vibranium…” Tony muttered to himself, his voice filled with terror, “That’s what it wanted, the truly perfect body. My God…”
“We have to stop it.” Steve’s voice broke the silence, like a stone thrown into an icy lake. “Tony, can you pinpoint Dr. Zhao’s location?”
"South Korea, Seoul, a private research institution called 'Utopia'."
"Prepare to depart," Steve ordered immediately.
But a heavy atmosphere once again enveloped everyone. They were about to face an unkillable monster and stop the birth of a new god, and they didn't even know where to begin.
"Hey, I said."
Chu Hang's lazy voice suddenly broke the solemn atmosphere.
Everyone looked at him.
He leaned against the doorframe of the laboratory, observing Steve, who had a serious expression and furrowed brows, with great interest.
"Captain, I have a personal question for you."
Steve was taken aback, clearly not following his train of thought. "What?"
“Didn’t I bring back a kid from Earth from space before, named Peter Quill?” Chu Hang stroked his chin and analyzed seriously, “I checked, his mother is from Missouri. You were touring around during World War II to sell national debt, I think… you went to Missouri, right?”
Steve was even more confused. He had no idea how the two things were related. "Yes, I went there. What's wrong?"
"It's nothing." Chu Hang's smile widened, revealing a set of white teeth. "It's just a coincidence. His mother looks exactly like the girl who asked you for an autograph back then. Judging by her age, she might be your daughter... Do you think it's possible that this is a romantic entanglement you accidentally left behind during your tour back then?"
The command center was silent for three seconds.
Then, Tony was the first to react. He was stunned at first, then burst into a fit of laughter as if someone had hit his funny bone, laughing so hard that he almost choked while clutching his stomach.
"My God! I knew it!" He pointed at Steve, laughing until tears streamed down his face. "Captain America! The nation's moral exemplar! He actually has an illegitimate daughter and a grandson who's a space hooligan! If this news gets out, it'll be the biggest headline of the century! Even more explosive than an alien invasion!"
Natasha couldn't help but turn her head away, her shoulders swaying, and a barely suppressed smile curving her lips.
Thor and Banner both joked with Steve with smiles on their faces, seemingly having forgotten about the upcoming battle.
Steve looked helpless: "Don't talk nonsense, or I'll sue you for defamation!"
Chapter 135: Changing the Heaven and the Sun
Steve's face flushed instantly, from the base of his neck all the way to his ears. He opened his mouth, wanting to refute, but found that anything he said would sound like a sophistry. "Impossible," he repeated dryly, "We were on a mission, we...we were just selling government bonds."
This explanation is weak and unconvincing; even he himself doesn't believe it.
Tony's laughter was short and sharp, like metal scraping against glass. He pointed at Steve and said to Natasha beside him, "See? I told you he was an old fogey, but even old fogeys make mistakes. The space rogue's grandfather is Captain America; even Hollywood wouldn't dare write a script like this."
Natasha merely turned her head slightly to look out the window, but the slight tremor of her shoulders betrayed her.
The boulder that had been pressing down on everyone's chests had finally been loosened a little. The fear was still there, but at least they could breathe a sigh of relief.
......
"Coordinates locked, downtown Seoul, 'Utopia' Research Institute." Tony's smile vanished as dozens of virtual screens unfolded before him, data streaming down like a waterfall. "Arrival in five minutes. Architectural plans have been uploaded to your tactical terminals."
His voice had regained its usual crispness, but deep in his eyes, the fear of seeing all his comrades fall at his feet still burned like a small will-o'-the-wisp.
"Prepare to move out." Steve's voice returned to its cold tone as he gripped his shield tightly and refocused his gaze.
The fighter jets cut through the clouds and roared toward Seoul.
Inside the cabin, Steve was rapidly planning the assault route and firepower allocation on the tactical tablet.
Natasha and Clint checked their equipment, one wiping the widow's sting, the other calibrating the arrow's weight, their movements precise and mechanical, as if only in this way could they shut out the bloody memories that kept flashing back in their minds.
Thor gripped his hammer, his eyes closed, tiny sparks of electricity occasionally flashing across his body. What he saw was Heimdall's blind eyes, and the end of Asgard.
“Banner?” Steve looked up and asked.
"Not bad." Dr. Banner pushed up his glasses, his face still pale. He dared not close his eyes; if he did, all he would see was the Hulk's uncontrolled roar and boundless destruction.
Chu Hang sat in the corner, watching the clouds rushing past the window, his expression calm.
The others were thinking about how to smash Ultron and how to prevent the birth of a monster.
What he was thinking about was how to make this masterpiece that Ultron was about to complete his own.
Cradle of Regeneration, Vibranium, Mind Gem.
These three things combined constitute Vision: a perfect body possessing the Infinity Stones, physical immunity, and the ability to wield Thor's hammer.
He couldn't just stand by and watch it be destroyed or fall into the hands of someone else.
What he wanted was to have his name engraved on the artwork before it left the factory.
When they arrived over Seoul, the area below was already engulfed in flames.
The piercing sirens, screams from the crowd, and deafening explosions mingled together like a boiling pot of apocalyptic soup. Silver-white steel legion robots rampaged through the streets, carrying out the simplest of commands—elimination.
The energy beams indiscriminately struck vehicles, buildings, and fleeing crowds.
“It made its move.” Steve’s voice was forced out through clenched teeth, each word dripping with rage.
"I'll clear out the air units and open a passage for you."
Tony's mask snapped shut and flew out from the rear of the cabin, where two scorching repulsion cannon beams precisely blasted two robots that were about to attack a school bus.
"Hulk, smash!" Dr. Banner took a deep breath and leaped into the air.
In mid-air, his body rapidly expanded, his skin turned green, and he roared like a meteorite as he crashed into the densest concentration of robots in the park, causing the ground to tremble.
“Let’s go.” Steve and Natasha slid down the rope quickly, and he used his shield to deflect the flying energy shots, covering a small group of civilians as they retreated towards the subway station.
Thor followed closely behind, spinning his hammer and unleashing a storm of lightning that, like a true divine punishment, wiped out all the robots on the street.
Chu Hang was the last to land, his toes lightly touching the asphalt road, as steady as a rock.
"I'm going to the lab, you guys hold it off," he said into the communicator, then reached out and pressed a button on his tactical headset to turn off the communication.
"Chu Hang? Your mission is..." Steve called out twice in the channel, only to hear a busy tone.
Enraged, he slammed his fist against the wall beside him, but with the situation urgent, he could only shout, "Fight on your own! Evacuate civilians first!"
Chu Hang's figure flickered alternately in the shadows of buildings and the flashes of explosions, like a ghost out of place on the battlefield, quickly disappearing at the edge of the main battlefield.
He didn't go through the main entrance, where the security was tightest. Instead, he went around to the side of the Utopia building and teleported directly to the underground parking lot.
The air was thick with the acrid smell of ozone and burning plastic. Several security guards lay dead on the ground, their wounds smooth as mirrors, instantly vaporized by the high-temperature energy weapon.
He walked to a thick alloy wall, stretched out his hand, spread his fingers, and gently placed them on the cold metal surface.
No sound, no light effects.
The special alloy wall, at least half a meter thick, melted silently inwards like a piece of butter being branded with a hot iron, forming a circular opening just large enough for one person to pass through. The cut was so smooth it could be used as a mirror.
The laboratory is behind the wall.
Dr. Helen Zhao stood pale-faced beside a huge glass container, her eyes vacant, like a marionette. A metal plate, shimmering with a faint blue light, was taped to her temple—the tool Ultron used to control her.
Ultron's pure black vibranium body stood behind her, like a silent king looking down upon his creation.
"Speed up, Doctor." Ultron's voice was cold and devoid of any emotion. "My new world can't wait."
Inside the regeneration cradle, a translucent red male body was nearing completion. Countless slender mechanical arms were injecting liquid vibranium, thread by thread, into the body, allowing it to perfectly fuse with the newly formed flesh and blood. Directly above the cradle, the yellow Mind Gem floated, radiating a sun-like light, channeling a vast will and an endless stream of data into the brand-new brain.
Chu Hang remained hidden in the spatial crevices, like an invisible spectator, quietly observing everything. He was waiting for the right moment, the moment when Ultron would upload his core code into his new body.
In that instant, the new body's operating system was like a blank sheet of paper that had just been formatted, making it the easiest place to write new things.
The explosions outside were getting closer; the Avengers had broken through the outer defenses and were almost there.
“Looks like my guests have arrived.” Ultron turned and walked toward the lab door. “I’ll go greet them. I’ll finish the final upload before I get back.”
As soon as Ultron's heavy footsteps disappeared, Chu Hang emerged from the crack in space.
When Dr. Zhao Hailun, who was controlled by the Mind Scepter, saw him, a brief look of doubt flashed in her numb eyes, but it was quickly suppressed by the external will, and she continued to carry out the instructions.
Chu Hang walked to the Regeneration Cradle and admired the perfect body through the glass. The indestructibility of vibranium, the infinite possibilities of flesh and blood, and the supreme wisdom of the Mind Stone were all combined into one.
“How can a perfect work of art be without the creator’s signature?” He smiled, a smile that only he could understand.
He extended his right hand, and with the tip of his index finger, a wisp of scarlet mist, hundreds of times thinner than a strand of hair, condensed.
That was copied from Wanda, and then repeatedly purified and compressed by his own power of law; it was the most primordial chaotic magic.
It is no longer simply emotional energy, but a law-based weapon that is close to the concept of "modifying reality".
He flicked his finger.
The almost invisible red mist silently seeped into the energy channel supplying the regeneration cradle, and along with the massive data flow of the Mind Gem, was injected into the newborn body.
It's like adding a drop of invisible ink to a glass of perfectly pure water. It doesn't change the water's color or taste, but it fundamentally alters its properties.
After doing all this, Chu Hang's figure disappeared into thin air again, as if he had never existed.
A few seconds later, the laboratory door was smashed open by a tremendous force.
Steve charged in first, shield in hand, followed by Natasha with a gun and Clint with an arrow at his side.
What they saw was Dr. Zhao Hailun pressing the last button on the control panel with a blank expression.
The body in the cradle of regeneration jerked violently, and the light of the Mind Gem shone so brightly that it was blinding.
"No!" Steve shouted in despair, throwing his shield with all his might.
The vibranium shield whistled through the air, but only managed to create a spiderweb-like crack on the glass shell of the regeneration cradle before bouncing away powerlessly.
Ultron's voice echoed throughout the laboratory, no longer through mechanical speakers, but resonating directly in everyone's minds, carrying the joy of new life and divine majesty.
