Chapter 43 The Banquet
Chapter 43 The Banquet
After the auction, Vega did not immediately begin the private transactions, but instead invited everyone to a banquet that Monica had already prepared.
The banquet was a buffet. Vega took some of his favorite food, went to the area where the superhumans were gathered, explained to everyone why he hadn't made the appointment, and apologized: "I'm sorry I couldn't attend today's banquet as promised. I didn't leave the lab until after 7 p.m. to prepare for the auction."
British captain Brian Braddock: "No need to apologize, we didn't actually have a meal together today."
Vega asked, puzzled, "Is today's task very demanding?"
Steve Rogers lamented, "We assisted the military in clearing the entire Manhattan today. The task itself was easy, but mentally exhausting."
After clearing so many occupied areas, Manhattan was the darkest and most disorderly place they had ever seen.
Before the invasion, Manhattan had a population of nearly 200 million, including tourists from all over the world, but yesterday they and the military found fewer than 37 people.
Of those who perished, according to the investigation, less than a third were killed by the invaders, while the remaining two-thirds were almost entirely killed by their own kind.
Of the remaining 37 people, none were old or weak; almost everyone had blood on their hands.
How to deal with these people is a big problem. There are too many people and nowhere to detain them, but releasing them would pose a huge threat to society.
After listening to Steve Rogers's explanation, Vega fell silent. He knew that many people would lose their humanity after the loss of order, but he did not expect it to be this terrible.
Upon hearing Steve Rogers' words, the lively atmosphere vanished instantly, and everyone fell silent.
After a long time, thanks to the efforts of some people, the atmosphere finally returned to normal.
Tony Stark leaned closer: "Lee, can that silver bodysuit really enter the mirrored space of reality? Do those magical spaces you mentioned really exist?"
Vega nodded: "It really exists."
Tony Stark: "How much of that space is there? How does it exist? Is it the same size as outer space? Are the laws of physics the same as those of real space?"
Brian Braddock: "Stark, as a fellow researcher, I understand your thirst for knowledge in these unknown areas, but I need to remind you to curb your curiosity and not to peer into those spaces; it's very dangerous."
Thor chimed in, "That's right, it's extremely dangerous. We wouldn't easily venture into those spaces."
Tony Stark retorted, "Li Du said that there are many terrifying beings in those spaces spying on the real world. If we don't try to understand them, how will we deal with them when they actually invade the real world? Are we just supposed to wait to die?!"
Brian Braddock chuckled, "Heh, don't worry, the chances of that happening are slim. Even if it does happen, there will be people specifically tasked with handling it."
"Specialized people?" Tony Stark asked, puzzled, and most of the superhumans also looked bewildered.
Vega: "Captain Brian, you know them?"
Brian Braddock nodded: "You know about it too? I work with people in the London branch of that organization."
Vega: "I've dealt with people in the New York branch, and that guy has given me some pointers a few times."
Brian Braddock: "So it seems that master admires you. Did the master invite you to take her place?"
Vega asked in surprise, "She didn't tell you too, did she?"
Brian Braddock smiled but didn't answer, but Vega knew the answer and smiled too. It seems Brian Braddock also knew the Ancient One's background.
Indeed, Captain Britain Brian Braddock's magical powers come from the Sorcerer Supreme, Merlin the Supreme, who was once the Sorcerer Supreme. He is also connected to the Avalon Mystery, so it's not surprising that he knows the Ancient One is a deadbeat.
Tony Stark was completely confused: "What are you talking about? What is that organization?"
Vega shook his head: "It's nothing. It's an organization that specializes in dealing with crises of invasion from other spaces, dimensions, and outer universes. They are Earth's true last line of defense."
Earth is the cradle of the gods, and the secrets and powerful beings hidden on Earth are beyond your imagination.
Don't try to study it on your own. The physical rules of each space are vastly different from those of the real world. Trying to understand other spaces using the rules of the real world is a waste of time.
"And just as S.H.I.E.L.D.'s research into the Tesseract attracts intruders, the beings within those spaces will also notice you when you peer into them."
Don't be so arrogant as to think you won't make the same mistakes as S.H.I.E.L.D. I admit there aren't many people in the entire universe smarter than you, but your understanding of the supernatural world is too shallow, it's impossible for you not to make mistakes.
Don't do things you're destined to regret, because if you create a spatial invasion crisis, you won't even have the chance to regret it.
Being looked down upon and criticized and lectured in a manner similar to that of an ignorant person greatly displeased the proud Tony Stark.
He wanted to refute it, but he also knew that Vega was right; his understanding of the supernatural world was very shallow, or even nonexistent.
But can you blame him for this?!
He had always been accustomed to the modern scientific system. He had no idea that there were unscientific beings like Vega, Captain Britain, Thor, and Captain Marvel, nor did he know what the world was really like!
Tony Stark shut his mouth, picked up his glass in frustration, and began to drink. He wouldn't give up, but before taking action, he needed to learn more about the supernatural world. He was also worried that acting recklessly would create a crisis he couldn't handle.
Vega and Brian Braddock exchanged a glance and secretly decided to pay more attention to Tony Stark.
"Lee, how do we exchange the Scepter of Life?" Thor, who had been listening in the whole time, didn't ask what the organization Vega was talking about was. He knew it was Kamar-Taj, which was revered as a magical holy land throughout the universe, and he also knew that the Ancient One of Kamar-Taj was no weaker than his father.
Vega: "The Scepter of Life can only be traded for artifacts of the same level or a large amount of high-level extraordinary materials. You'll be at a disadvantage if you trade with me. If you want it, you can provide the materials and have Etri make a more powerful one. The Scepter of Life was made by him."
Thor shook his head: "I can tell that some of the forging techniques on the Scepter of Life don't belong to the Dwarves. Uh, okay, I'll just say it directly."
What I really want are your forging and potion-making skills. If you're willing to trade, you can name your terms.
