Chapter 35 Don't Give Them a Chance
Chapter 35 Don't Give Them a Chance
On the way back, the vector was unusually quiet.
She wasn't intimidated by the few words from the arena management, but the feeling was still terrible.
It's like a bird that used to poop in the trees suddenly circling above your head, giving you a strange look, ready to poop on you at any moment.
A disgusting scheme.
She followed Zhen Tianzun back, her steps steady, but her mind kept replaying the conversation. Especially the phrase "the one next to you," which felt like a small fragment stuck somewhere, making her a little annoyed.
After the door closed, the room became quiet.
Zhen Tianzun casually shook off the remaining arena aura from his outer armor, stood by the table, and glanced at her first: "What are you thinking about?"
Yin Xiang raised his head, his tone tinged with displeasure: "I think they've already decided to start with me."
Zhen Tianzun grunted in response, offering no words of comfort.
This reaction actually made the attraction vector more certain.
She stood there, not wanting to appear too tense.
"So you also think they will."
"Whether it will happen or not is one thing," Zhen Tianzun said calmly. "Whether or not we let them try is another matter."
The vector stared at him for two seconds.
That's how that jerk sometimes talks; it sounds like he's not answering the question, but he's actually made his meaning perfectly clear.
She suppressed her frustration and crossed her arms: "Fine, so are you going to start setting rules for me now?"
Zhen Tianzun looked at her without beating around the bush.
"Yes."
Vector: She knew it.
Zhen Tianzun began to explain point by point: "During this period, the location sharing of frequency bands will be turned off."
Vector's lips twitched: "I didn't turn it off anyway."
"I know." Zhen Tianzun glanced at her. "I'm just reminding you."
"...Okay, you can continue."
"Don't wander around the arena backstage area on your own," he said. "Come with me and stay over there. Don't wander around the corridors by yourself."
Vector subconsciously wanted to reply, "When did I wander around?", but then remembered that he had indeed done quite a bit before, so he swallowed the words back and just said "Oh" in a very unconvincing tone.
Zhen Tianzun ignored him and continued, "If management contacts you privately, don't answer."
"Not even the frequency band?"
"I won't answer calls from unknown sources. I won't answer calls that seem suspicious." His tone was cold and indifferent. "And if you do answer, don't call back yourself."
"You're giving me a security manual."
"Then you can carry it on your back." Zhen Tianzun didn't even lift his eyelids. "It's better than them actually using you as a test subject someday."
Okay, she knows this isn't an exaggeration.
Now that management has set their sights on her, they can't pretend they didn't see it. In their eyes, she is now both the machine that always appears behind the scenes alongside Zhen Tianzun, and also a relatively easy opening to test and manipulate.
Zhen Tianzun glanced at her, his tone still the same, unhurried and unhurried, but giving her no room to be stubborn.
"If you encounter any unusual channels, strange contacts, or if anyone says something they shouldn't have to, please tell me first."
Yin Xiang frowned slightly: "It's not like I can't handle it myself."
"I didn't say you couldn't," Zhen Tianzun said, looking at her. "I meant don't try to carry it all yourself."
The room fell silent for a moment.
Yin Xiang was stunned for half a second, suppressing the inexplicable feeling that suddenly surged up in his heart, and then awkwardly looked away.
"You make it sound like I'm easily bullied."
Zhen Tianzun seemed to have heard some pointless nonsense that didn't need rebuttal, and gave a light snort: "You're not?"
Pointer vector: "..."
Row.
There's no way to refute that.
She was silent for a few seconds, then finally exhaled a little, her tone softening considerably.
"I know what they meant by those words today," she said. "They're looking at me now because they think I can be manipulated."
"Um."
"I know that in their eyes, I'm already on your side now."
Zhen Tianzun did not answer immediately.
The vector stood there, his fingers unconsciously brushing against the outer armor of his forearm, and continued speaking.
"I'm not stupid. I live with you, train with you, and I'm always running backstage. Let alone them, even I wouldn't think of myself as just someone passing by." She paused, then looked up at Zhen Tianzun. "So it's not because my brain suddenly overheated that I want to side with you. It's just that this is the most logical position right now."
He thought to himself that her words were very direct and very much like her own.
His logic was clear, his reasons were sound, yet some of his words still left Ji momentarily stunned. His gaze lingered on her face for a moment before he suddenly spoke: "I know."
He paused, then added, "I know you're not having a brain overheating problem. If you were, you wouldn't be acting with such restraint."
Is this a compliment? It doesn't seem like it's entirely a compliment.
Yin Vector looked at him, speechless for a moment.
Zhen Tianzun, however, seemed not to think that there was anything worth lingering over in those words, and continued to bring up the rules.
"If they really come after you, no matter what method they use, don't go with them."
"I'm not the type to be fooled by a couple of conditions."
"I know you won't," said the Heavenly Lord, "but they don't necessarily only use one method."
This sentence immediately pulled the vector back from that inexplicable pause.
She frowned: "So you're admitting they have a lot of methods?"
My default approach is to prioritize prevention.
The vector stared at him for two seconds, and finally nodded.
"Okay. I got it."
"It's not about remembering," Zhen Tianzun said, looking at her. "It's about doing it."
"...You have quite a lot of demands."
"You've got plenty of trouble too."
That's what he said, but Yin Vector wasn't so upset. That damn machine is actually a bit biased.
She leaned against the table, remained silent for a moment, and then suddenly blurted out, "Are you so sure that if they came after me, I would tell you?"
Zhen Tianzun looked at her, raised an eyebrow, and felt that the question itself was somewhat superfluous.
"You will."
Vector crossed his arms: "How can you be so confident?"
"Because you're not stupid," Zhen Tianzun said calmly. "You know this isn't the time for a machine to just stand there recklessly."
She was going to retort with "You think quite highly of me," but before she could finish, the spark ignited and the engine warmed up a bit.
It's not the same machine.
Yeah, actually it feels pretty good.
She could only look down at her hands, and after two seconds, she let out a very soft "Oh".
Zhen Tianzun glanced at her and clearly noticed the subtle pause behind her "oh." He didn't press her for details, giving her space to process it herself.
