Chapter 29 Job Assignments
Chapter 29 Job Assignments
After they finished making arrangements, Lu Chen straightened up from the door frame and walked over.
"Still busy so late? How's the arrangement going?"
"Gao Yuan's previous investigation work was thorough, and there are only a few left," Shen Qingci said, handing a form to Lu Chen.
"However, there are relatively few people willing to go out on fieldwork. Including Zhao Yongqiang from earlier, there are only 5."
Lu Chen took the form and glanced at it. It listed 20 names, each with their age, pre-apocalyptic occupation, and whether they had any special skills.
In this list, 15 people have already checked the box in the job title column, which means that the registration has been completed.
Most of the names were followed by "logistics," and their specific responsibilities were clearly labeled: Sun Xiulan, cook; Liu Wenjing, nurse; Wang Jianguo, warehouse manager; Li Xiaomei, cleaner...
Cleaning, laundry, cooking, moving supplies, standing guard – Gao Yuan had already arranged most of these tasks this afternoon, and everyone was doing them.
But what Shen Qingci is doing now is to formally confirm these temporary assignments, put them in writing, and clearly specify the treatment standards for each person.
Don't underestimate this step; it may seem redundant, but it's actually quite necessary.
Shen Qingci is a superhuman, and within the team, the identity of a superhuman carries a natural authority.
With her personal confirmation, no one will dare to cause any trouble with these job assignments.
If someone is assigned to cleaning by Gao Yuan, they might privately grumble, "Why am I being made to do this?" But if this assignment is confirmed and recorded by a person with superpowers, then the nature of the situation is different.
"Five people are enough!" Lu Chen handed the form back to Shen Qingci.
"They came out with me mainly to do odd jobs, like moving supplies and relaying messages. They weren't really in the position to charge into battle; the zombies were already taking the hits."
"Okay!" Shen Qingci took the form and said, "In addition, Gao Yuan and I discussed it and decided to introduce a contribution point system within our organization."
"Contribution points?"
"That's right! Everyone gets contribution points for completing their assigned tasks. The more you do, the more you get; the less you do, the less you get."
"The supplies we collect later won't be distributed for nothing; they'll all be exchanged for contribution points."
"Basic food and water are rationed daily to ensure that everyone doesn't starve, but if you want better quality, you have to exchange it for contribution points."
She paused, looked at Lu Chen, and asked, "What do you think?"
"That's good." Lu Chen nodded. "We'll do it your way!"
His attitude toward logistics management was clear from the beginning: try not to interfere and let Shen Qingci and Gao Yuan handle things themselves.
His energy is limited; clearing out zombies and improving his strength are his main battlegrounds.
As for logistics, any arrangement is acceptable as long as it ensures the team operates normally.
Lu Chen didn't leave after that. He stood by the desk, arms crossed, watching Shen Qingci finish talking to the last few people one by one.
When everyone arrived and saw Lu Chen there, their expressions changed to varying degrees. Some became more nervous, some became more serious, and some who had initially wanted to bargain swallowed their words after glancing at Lu Chen's expression.
He's standing here to support Shen Qingci's work.
This means that this job assignment was jointly confirmed by the two superhumans, and even if someone is dissatisfied with their position later, they cannot simply change jobs.
Offending one superpowered individual might allow you to plead for mercy, but offending two at the same time would likely result in being kicked out of the team.
In the apocalypse, everyone knows what being kicked out of a team means.
After the last person finished speaking and left, Shen Qingci began tidying up the documents on the table. Without looking up, she said to Lu Chen, "Go and get some rest! Focus on improving your abilities. There's just a little finishing work left; leave that to us."
Confirming everyone's position is only the first step.
Next, she and Gao Yuan need to assign tomorrow's specific tasks to people based on these positions. Each task must be arranged properly tonight so that it can operate normally tomorrow morning.
This will also take up a lot of time.
"Okay!" Lu Chen said, but didn't go back. "However, I haven't finished my work yet."
He actually came out of town for two main reasons.
The first thing to do is check on the survivors' situation; this is already done.
The second one hasn't arrived yet.
Shen Qingci looked up at him with some confusion.
Lu Chen didn't explain, but directly commanded the zombies in the corridor to start moving.
Tie Zhu left the fire door and walked to the connecting bridge at the end of the corridor.
The connecting bridge is an aerial walkway linking two buildings, with no obstructions on either side, allowing the red moonlight to shine in at an angle.
Tie Zhu stood in the area where the moonlight was brightest, his grayish-white eyes fixed on the red moon in the sky.
Then came Erzhu, Dazhuang, Erzhuang, Sanzhuang, and a few other zombies.
Lu Chen reassigned positions to them one by one, placing each one in a spot where the red moon could directly shine on them.
"That's right!" Shen Qingci's eyes lit up as she looked at the zombies standing in the moonlight. "Zombies can also become stronger through the red moon. The zombies you deliberately cultivated should be stronger than wild ones, right?"
"Yes! I've observed it." Lu Chen said while giving instructions, "Ordinary zombies don't have intelligence; they won't deliberately absorb the Red Moon's energy."
"When the moon comes out at night, we just stand there and absorb the sunlight. If it shines on us, we don't consciously move to a different spot. This passive absorption is definitely not as efficient as what my team does, which is exposed to sunlight all night long."
He paused, a hint of certainty in his voice.
"Moreover, the zombies I selected were already among the stronger ones. Their natural talents are already better than ordinary zombies, and with the deliberate exposure to moonlight, their evolution speed will definitely be significantly faster."
He continued to give instructions as he spoke. The bridge wasn't very big, so in order to ensure that each zombie could get enough moonlight, he couldn't crowd them all together; they had to stand at intervals.
Five of them were enough to almost fill the entire moonlight area of the connecting bridge.
Lu Chen sent the remaining zombies into the balconies of different rooms to absorb the Red Moon.
The balconies on the 5th floor all have ample space, and the red moonlight shines in without any obstruction.
Even the zombies that were originally guarding the fire escape were moved by him to the window in the stairwell, where a beam of moonlight slanted in through the narrow window, just enough for a zombie to stand there.
During this process, it's inevitable that a little commotion will occur because zombies will be brought into the room.
Several survivors who were chatting in the room were startled when a fully armed zombie pushed open the door and entered.
But when Gao Yuan explained to them that "these zombies will become even stronger after absorbing the Red Moon," their gazes toward Lu Chen held an added layer of reverence.
After doing all this, Lu Chen returned to his residence.
