Chapter 81 Bring Me My Knife
Chapter 81 Bring Me My Knife
It was an ugly and wild head.
The young wizards on the surrounding boats immediately gasped in shock.
It has a human-like appearance, but with iron-gray skin, a pair of yellowish eyes, and dark green hair that is draped over its shoulders like tangled weeds. Its open mouth reveals jagged yellow sharp teeth, and a necklace made of coarse pebbles hangs around its thick neck.
In its hand, it still tightly gripped a long spear that gleamed coldly.
"Don't move! Don't make any rash moves!"
Hagrid stood alone on the foremost small boat, nervously lowering his voice: "That's a mermaid from the Black Lake! They're not easy to deal with, don't provoke him!"
The merman stared intently at Lucas and his crew's small boat, letting out a piercing shriek like the grinding of rough stones, sending chills down everyone's spines.
The rhythmic shrieks must have been a language, but the mermaid cried out several times, and the young wizards on the boat couldn't understand a word. The mermaid grew impatient, pointing with her webbed, grey-green hands at the fish in the boat, then at herself, before making a fierce grabbing gesture.
"He wants you to give him back the fish in the boat!" Hagrid shouted. "Lucas, Harry, do as he says! Those are his prey!"
Lucas looked down into the ship and saw poor Harry sprawled on the deck, with a huge fish, almost half his body length, lying on top of him.
It was incredibly strong, and its powerful tail fin was like a slap, striking Harry left and right with a "slap slap slap," making Harry's glasses fly off and his eyes roll back in his head.
"Ouch... Help..."
"Harry! Hang in there!"
Lucas, Ellie, and Hannah frantically pulled Harry out from under the giant fish. In the moonlight, Lucas recognized the species of fish.
It has a beautiful streamlined shape, a dark blue back, and bright orange-red spots on its belly.
"Arctic red-spotted salmon?"
This high-quality salmon is found in the Arctic and nearby waters, including the cold-water lakes of Scotland. Its flesh combines the richness and succulence of salmon with the delicate sweetness of freshwater trout. Moreover, it is so long and so big that it is truly precious.
This is an extremely attractive ingredient, especially for a chef!
As Lucas praised the fish, he held it down, preparing to push it back into the lake. Just then, the mermaid urged him on in a shrill voice. Lucas glanced at him, feeling the cold, firm skin and strong, powerful muscle contractions of the fish in his hand. Suddenly, a sentence echoed in his mind.
"...They eat raw fish, tsk tsk, their mouths are covered in blood. Greek wizards also say that mermaids love to eat all kinds of raw fish..."
Mermaids live underwater and cannot make fire, so they can only eat fish raw.
Lucas's gaze swept between the mermaid's jagged, sharp teeth and the exquisite Arctic red-spotted salmon at his feet.
Such a precious gift from heaven, if given to mermaids to eat indiscriminately, wouldn't that be a waste of nature's bounty?
Lucas stopped moving.
"Lucas?" Ellie saw Lucas's expression change; a familiar, excited smile appeared on his face, and his body tensed up.
Oh no, it's happening again, the aftereffects of Lucas's concussion!
"Ellie, open the suitcase and get my knife."
"what?"
"Oh, I can do it myself." Lucas opened the suitcase, reached inside, and took out a black leather kitchen knife case.
With a soft click, the kitchen knife bag unfolded parallel to the salmon, and a row of knives gleamed in the moonlight and starlight.
Each kitchen knife was carefully placed in a special slot, arranged in a very particular order. The blades were protected by leather sheaths, and the handles were made of dark walnut wood, polished and oiled countless times, giving them a warm, lustrous sheen.
"Lucas, you carry so many knives with you?" Harry exclaimed in surprise, his voice changing.
"Of course, these are my tools of the trade." Lucas's fingers brushed over the hilts of the knives, while Harry was filled with questions.
The tools for eating, isn't that a bowl?
"Excuse me, could someone help me clean the bow of the boat?" Lucas didn't explain. Hannah squatted down, scooped up lake water with both hands, and began to wash the bow of the boat. Ellie and Harry joined in as well.
The mermaid in the lake, having waited until now, was enraged when Lucas not only failed to return the fish but also pulled out a row of knives. He raised his spear and let out a long, piercing scream.
Splash! Splash!
The calm lake surface began to tremble, and amidst the splashing water, fierce-looking mermaids wielding spears emerged from all directions, surrounding the fleet.
"Running Gorgons!" Hagrid hurriedly pulled out his little pink umbrella, gesturing wildly as he tried to negotiate with the mermaids, nearly capsizing the small boat in the process.
He quickly comforted the trembling freshmen around him.
"Children, don't be afraid, we're at Hogwarts now! Professor Dumbledore will be here soon! Mermaids would never dare to attack wizards!"
Even though he said that, he didn't dare to gamble. What if the mermaid went crazy?
Merlin, the new students of Hogwarts are stuck on the Black Lake—this is the first time in a thousand years...
He shouted again, "Lucas, Harry, what are you doing? Give the fish back to them!"
Harley vigorously scrubbed the bow and planks, glancing at Lucas upon hearing this.
Lucas's voice rang out: "I have to let them know. Eating raw is fine, but there's a world of difference between different kinds of raw food!"
"Let's begin."
As soon as he finished speaking, he flicked his finger, and Harry saw a flash of cold light as a streak of light leaped into Lucas's hand.
It was a long and elegant willow-blade sword.
It is single-edged, with a thick back and a blade as thin as a cicada's wing. Under the moonlight, it gleams with a faint, cold light, and begins to curve slightly upwards an inch from the tip, forming an elegant arc.
Lucas gripped the hilt, his knuckles fitting perfectly against the curve of the walnut wood. The blade gleamed in his hand, and in that instant, all eyes on the lake were fixed on Lucas.
The large salmon was still vigorously thrashing its tail, making the boat rattle loudly, when then, the knife moved.
With a flick of his wrist, the back of Yanagi's blade struck the nerve plexus in the salmon's head with precision. The force penetrated the flesh, and the large fish instantly straightened its body and became still.
The blade flowed like a clear spring under the starlight.
Make a cut under the gills and another under the tail to bleed the fish. The blood gushed out and dripped into the lake outside the boat.
Then, the blade moved along the bone seams, severing the large fish's spinal nerves with a barely perceptible sound.
A single cut can sever a life; this is called "living life".
Then, the tip of the knife pierced through the base of the tail, the blade held at a 30-degree angle, and slid smoothly across the abdomen. With a gentle flick, Lucas separated the internal organs from the membrane of the abdominal wall, and the entire set of internal organs was thrown into the lake.
Everyone was stunned. Even the mermaids in the water stared wide-eyed, forgetting to urge him on, and just stared blankly as the blade in Lucas's hand swam across the big fish.
Like magic.
