Chapter 440 Visitors
During his days in prison, Leo felt his pace suddenly slow down.
He suddenly remembered that ever since they arrived at Tongue Harbour and came into contact with spices, their lives had always been filled with busyness.
Two years ago, Leo couldn't have imagined that he would be more than just the president of a chamber of commerce.
Furthermore, he built his own business empire.
An emperor who has fallen into prison? Come to think of it, that title is actually quite funny.
But that's the nature of businessmen—those who profit through speculation. No matter how much they grow, they're still just a feather.
The breeze of power can lift it up with ease.
However, Leo was not wallowing in self-pity. In fact, from the moment he aspired to become a businessman, he saw his life destined to be adrift.
In the past few days, Leo has been carefully reflecting on his life as a businessman.
During this period, he has not seriously considered himself, focusing solely on his career.
This is certainly important for a young person who is striving for success.
However, sometimes we need some free time to examine ourselves.
Leo had control of resources, funds, and some power.
For the average businessman, Leo is probably someone others dream of becoming.
But only Leo felt that he hadn't changed and was still just an ordinary person.
He didn't have many desires; he just focused on doing his own thing.
Leo believes that staying true to his roots is the key factor that has enabled him to get to where he is today.
But as for how far it can go in the future, Leo couldn't see clearly for the time being.
But no matter what, the real question is how to get out.
After leaving, Leo will return to a life focused solely on his career. Leo believes that everyone's life is pretty much the same: birth, aging, sickness, death, starting a family, and building a career.
Some people value starting a family more, while Leo clearly has a greater passion for building a career.
It is precisely these subtle differences that make each person unique and wonderful.
Leo felt that maybe he should find a woman and have her have a child for him.
However, there's no need to force it; he doesn't have much of an obsession with this matter.
But how do we get out?
Leo hopes that Navajo and Apache will bring him good results.
They've been gone for two days now; by now, their operation should have yielded results.
However, neither of them has come to find Leo until now.
Of course, Franklin didn't have it either.
I heard he's planning to save Leo through legal means.
Kolio didn't think he could succeed; he believed the law was merely a tool for the upper class to control the lower class.
Despite Franklin's pronouncements on federal justice and the rule of law, past experiences made it difficult for Leo to fully trust him.
An apple, no matter how many flowery adjectives it is embellished with, is still an apple. Better packaging may indeed fetch a higher price, but it cannot change the fundamental nature of an apple.
Leo felt that his imprisonment must have affected someone's interests.
The other party must be very powerful within the Federation, and the worst-case scenario is that Leo has offended the Federation itself.
Hopefully, the outcome won't be that bad.
Suddenly, a prison guard came up to Leo:
"Come out, someone wants to see you."
Leo suddenly snapped out of his reverie and immediately got up to follow.
He knew that someone had wound up the clock for his incident.
Upon arriving at the visiting room, Leo was surprised by the person who came.
That was neither Franklin, nor Navajo, nor Apache, but another acquaintance of his:
"Mr. François?!"
The chubby chef in front of us is also an acquaintance of Mr. Mosley.
That is why Leo always treated this man with great respect.
But why would the other party appear in Parliament City, and upon learning of his imprisonment, come to visit him in his cell?
"I didn't expect it to really be you, Mr. Leo," said the fat chef in front of him.
A businessman must remain calm at all times, immediately accept the status quo, and ask:
"Why are you here, Mr. François?"
"It's a long story, but I'll make it short," François said. "I met your two green-eyed friends, and I had to find a translator who speaks the language of green-eyed people to learn from them that you were in prison."
Leo suddenly became alert. He sent the two green-eyed men to investigate something for him, but they ended up encountering François instead.
The two men didn't show up; instead, François did.
Leo realized that his plan had taken an unexpected turn:
Where did you meet them?
"In a private residence," François replied.
"Where are they?" Leo pressed.
"They've been arrested," François hurriedly added after the killing, "but both of them are safe and sound for now, I assure you that."
Leo immediately guessed: "Could it be that you and I are involved in the same case?"
François nodded: "At least there is a connection, sir. That academic theft case involves many things, and I don't think it's wise for you to get close to it."
"My research investment was stolen, so it's only natural that I want to get it back," Leo returned.
"I guessed that. Those two green-eyed people seem to be trying to retrieve something," Leo said. "But right now, you should prioritize figuring out how to get out."
"Sir, you know, it wasn't easy to see you. Luckily, I know a few officials in the parliament, and I asked them for help so that I could meet you."
Leo hesitated, saying, "I understand that businessmen should avoid trouble, but I must find out the truth about this matter, otherwise, the people here won't let me out."
Upon hearing this, François looked puzzled:
"Mr. Leo, why do you say that?"
Rio found François's reaction strange; wasn't it obvious?
"I was arrested and imprisoned because I was involved in this case."
"While I'm not entirely sure how deeply you're connected to this case—and it is indeed a major one—you clearly look like a victim. How could you possibly be locked up for that?"
Faced with François's words, Rio couldn't deny that, in fact, he too only had a partial view and could only draw his current conclusions based on fragmented clues:
"Perhaps, Mr. François, you know the reason I'm in prison."
"Of course," François nodded.
In that instant, Leo seemed to see a savior:
"Excuse me, what could be the reason?"
"Spice," François said.
Leo was puzzled: "But my business practices are entirely in accordance with the rules."
“It wasn’t a sale, Mr. Leo, you still don’t understand,” François said. “Therefore, you possessed the spices, and once the Federation found out, you were doomed.”
Leo's confusion grew even greater: "But spices are just a seasoning."
Although it can be used as a power source for firearms.
However, that estimate is only due to the result of Mahan's processing of the spices.
"My God, you sell spices all over the world and you didn't know that!"
François looked surprised. "Unparalleled power lies hidden within spices!"
