Chapter 20: Pig
Chapter 20: Pig
Shaking his groggy head, Illyrio stumbled and nearly fell to the ground.
Thank goodness, he was just injured, as long as he didn't die.
For Illyrio, all he needed was the name of Viserys; whether he was disabled or injured was of little consequence.
But then Illyrio felt a surge of anger. Pentos was such a large country, with so many governors and their entrenched connections, it was not surprising that they would notice he was hiding a pair of Targaryen remnants in his mansion.
But someone actually dared to carry out an assassination attempt in his mansion, in his home. This was undoubtedly a humiliation that was not only thrown to the ground but also trampled on.
"Let's go! Let's go see His Majesty!"
Suppressing his anger, the most important thing right now is to make sure Viserys is alright.
It seems I'll have to buy some more Unsullied to strengthen my guards, Illyrio thought with a pang of regret.
Having just woken up, Illyrio had no suspicion of misrepresentation and, accompanied only by two Unsullied guards, hurriedly followed behind the other man toward Viserys.
"Your Majesty! Gods, that damned assassin deserves to go to the deepest hell!"
Illyrio's voice trembled, as if he were a subject who had witnessed his emperor being humiliated and was filled with shame and indignation.
But when he stepped into the courtyard, he immediately sensed that something was amiss.
Sometime during this time, hundreds of outsiders carrying swords appeared in the courtyard. Judging from their appearance, they were no different from Viserys's guards, the loyal subjects he had described who had crossed the sea.
The hunting dogs stared at him, whimpering and drooling, as if they were looking at delicious food.
not good!
At that moment, it was as if a thunderbolt struck Illyrio's mind. Realizing something was wrong, he immediately turned around, but it was too late.
Six or seven men wielding swords suddenly appeared behind them and blocked their path.
"Protect me to get out of here!" Illyrio frantically pulled the two Unsullied in front of him and gave them the order.
The Unsullied are well-trained; these people don't even wear armor and are no match for them! Illyrio thought to himself that the eunuchs he usually regarded had come in very handy.
Without hesitation, the two Unsullied who received the order immediately aimed their spears at the players who were trying to surround them.
"What is this thing? Two Spartans?" A player looked at the Unsullied, who was holding the Contradictory Phenomenon and protecting Illyrio in the middle, with disdain in his tone.
"With so many of us, taking two small monsters is a piece of cake, right?" one player said, gripping his longsword and eager to try.
The rewards from the beginner's quests, which were just a small taste of the game, made Illyrio and his two companions seem like easy prey to the players.
"Wangcai, go!"
Finally, one player couldn't hold back any longer. With a command, the hound, the tamer's initial pet, whimpered and lunged at the Unsullied.
But the next second, the hound with its fangs bared was stabbed to death on the spot by the Unsullied.
"superior!"
Like a starting pistol, all the players took action.
As it turned out, with an overwhelming numerical advantage, two mere Unsullied were utterly ineffective.
After each of them pierced the body of an unfortunate player, the two Unsullied were killed by a hail of swords, and their long spears, shields, armor, and helmets were looted.
"Will he kill me or not?" Player Loves Pineapple Pizza asked his friend "I'm Really Awesome," looking at the others.
"Don't kill him! Tie this fat pig up and send him to His Majesty!"
As a veteran player, and with the pile of scrap metal he found in treasure chests that new players considered "high-level equipment," Xian Dan had a lot of influence among the players.
Soon, the players, like cannibals, bound Illyrio upside down and took him to Viserys.
"Why does my Chancellor of the Exchequer look so haggard after just one day?"
Viserys sat in his chair, toying with an ivory goblet in his hand, looking with composure at the governor, whose clothes were disheveled and stained with sweat.
"Your Majesty, the ropes are too tight. Could you loosen them?"
Illyrio's first words stunned Viserys and made all the players burst into laughter.
"So you're Lu Bu too?" The player couldn't tell the difference between the tree-root man and Lu Bu. He picked his nose and kept flicking unidentified objects at the struggling fat pig.
"Stop insulting Lu Bu! Even a hundred of these fat bastards wouldn't be enough for Lu Bu to kill!" Player Mantou Xianren, holding a hammer befitting his class, looked disdainfully at the disheveled governor.
"Pigs are not to be underestimated. When attacked, they huddle their rear ends against the wall. If you underestimate them, they might bite you with their sharp teeth and mouths and won't let go once they've bitten you!" the player, Nonstick Pan, declared confidently.
"I say, Your Excellency is truly wise!" Zhao Xiaotian's third uncle chimed in playfully, once again making the players burst into laughter.
The players' strange tales were so jarring to Illyrio's ears, but as a mercenary who had worked his way up from the bottom to his current position, he had lost his former bravery, but he possessed a thick skin that didn't care about anything.
"Your Majesty, I believe I can clearly explain whether there was any accidental misunderstanding between us. There is really no need for you to punish your subjects in this way, as it inevitably hurts the feelings of other loyal ministers!"
Illyrio struggled to lift his head, but could only see Viserys's chest and abdomen. He pleaded desperately, refusing to die at the hands of someone he considered a pawn.
"The governor has done quite a feat at home," Viserys said, setting down his expensive ivory goblet and slamming a dagger on the table. "A dagger made of Valyrian steel, my treasurer. You can try to guess where I found it."
Illyrio was taken aback at first, then his eyes flashed with understanding. People like him were like eels; as long as you gave them a chance to speak, their chances of survival were already fifty percent.
"Your Majesty, even the closest relationships can easily lead to misunderstandings if instigated by malicious individuals. You see," Illyrio struggled to speak slowly, bound by ropes:
"Just like now, those weapons and armor were originally prepared for Your Majesty. The dragon bones and spices were funds I prepared for Your Majesty's restoration of the country. People always say that an army without gold coins to maintain itself is just a pile of loose sand."
"Now, I am willing to hand all these things over to Your Majesty, hoping only that after Your Majesty completes the great cause of restoring the kingdom, you will retain a place for your humble servant in the Imperial Council!"
Looking at Illyrio's dignity, now buried deep underground, Viserys couldn't help but marvel at how flexible the other man was, even bringing out a humble servant. One might mistake him for someone dressed in Qing Dynasty attire.
