Chapter 315 Plum Blossoms for the Second Time
Chapter 315 Plum Blossoms for the Second Time
Inside the intensive care unit of Konoha Hospital.
This room is currently filled with almost all of the village's current high-ranking officials; however, the condition of these important figures is far from respectable, and can even be described as quite miserable.
Four hospital beds were placed side by side, each in a different state, though all were in disarray. First were the two elderly people, Koharu Utatane and Yan Mitokado, whose injuries were relatively "milder," but who were the most agitated and kept rambling on and on.
Except for their eyes and mouths, the rest of their faces were tightly wrapped in thick white bandages, making them look like two talking mummy heads.
Every time they opened their mouths, it seemed to aggravate the wounds on their faces, causing a stinging pain, but this did nothing to stop their continuous complaints and questions.
"Hiruzen! Did you hear what we said?!" Koharu Utatane's voice sounded muffled through her bandages, but her anger was clearly evident. "This is utterly outrageous! How could you allow the former Nine-Tails Jinchuriki to run rampant in the Hokage Building?!"
"And it just so happens to be during this crucial period of post-war reconstruction and power transition! Because of her actions, do you know how much time and resources we'll have to waste dealing with the aftermath? What excuse will we use to delay and explain the next Hokage's inauguration ceremony to the outside world?"
"And another thing!" Mitokado Homura chimed in, "Are you just going to let Kushina Uzumaki's situation slide like this? 'Just leave it at that for now'? What kind of attitude is that! Allowing a confirmed dead soul to remain in the mortal world is a serious desecration of the order of life and death! Breaking this taboo, once the news leaks out, what kind of vigilance and backlash will it cause other major powers? Have you considered the consequences?!"
On the hospital bed opposite them lay the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, who looked the most miserable in the entire room. His entire attire was exotic, and if you didn't see his exposed, weary old face, you would almost mistake him for a newly unearthed Egyptian mummy.
His limbs were firmly immobilized in sturdy plaster casts, unable to move an inch. The ninjutsu professor, who had experienced countless ninja wars and faced countless powerful enemies, had never been in such a sorry state. Even with daily medical ninjutsu treatment, the doctor estimated that it would take at least a month for him to regain basic mobility.
The Third Hokage lay there silently, offering no response to the barrage of accusations from his two old friends and advisors. In truth, upon first waking, he had already answered most of their questions.
However, his answer clearly stated that he had no intention of "dealing with" or forcibly removing Kushina's current state, which obviously made Koharu Utatane and Homura Mitokado extremely dissatisfied, and the questioning has continued until now.
Since there was no way to shut them up, the Third Hokage decided to remain silent himself. He simply closed his eyes, hoping to avoid the disturbance altogether.
Beside the Third Hokage's sickbed, Jiraiya was in no better condition. One of his arms and most of his face were also wrapped in bandages, but he clearly knew better how to cope with this environment—he had his ears firmly plugged with earplugs, blocking out most of the noise pollution.
Then, with his remaining free hand, he leisurely flipped through a book he had written himself, as if everything around him was irrelevant.
He was still struggling with how to apologize for ignoring Naruto for so many years... but then he got beaten up like this by Kushina... Jiraiya smiled bitterly to himself.
Strangely enough, after suffering this physical pain, Jiraiya felt much less guilty and more relaxed.
Jiraiya secretly hoped that when he saw Kushina next time... her anger would dissipate a bit. After all, regarding taking Naruto as a student, if Naruto's parents were still alive, it would be both morally and logically necessary to obtain their consent.
This method of "physical communication," though a bit crude, is at least a kind of... alternative "information," right?
"Excuse me, miss, this is the intensive care unit. Unauthorized personnel are not allowed to enter or leave at will."
Suddenly, a nurse's voice, tinged with dissuasion, came from not far outside the ward door.
"It's alright, I know those old geezers inside. I'm just going in to take care of something and I'll be right back."
Another female voice, carrying an undeniable air of authority, rang out. To some people in the ward, this voice was a nightmare-inducingly familiar one.
"You...you old geezer?! Please leave immediately! If you insist on causing trouble, I'll have to call the guards and ninjas!" The nurse's voice was clearly tense.
"Huh? Wait! What are you doing?! Please don't do this—!"
"Bang!!!!!!"
With a deafening roar, the heavy door to the ward wasn't pushed open, but rather smashed into countless fragments by a fist!
The nurse in charge of stopping her stared in disbelief at the scene before her, finally realizing that this red-haired woman was no ordinary visitor and was likely an extremely dangerous person!
Inside the ward, everyone except the Third Hokage, whose neck was immobilized and could only glance at the door out of the corner of his eye, was startled by the sudden, violent forced entry and turned to look at the doorway.
Sure enough, standing amidst the ruins at the entrance was none other than Kushina Uzumaki, whose vibrant red hair swirled in anger even without wind! Her face was terrifyingly gloomy.
"Kushina Uzumaki! What are you doing now?!" Koharu Utatane glared at the intruder through the bandages on her face, her only visible eye. "Haven't you caused enough trouble at the Hokage Building?! This is a hospital!"
"Kushina..." Jiraiya hurriedly stuffed the novel he was holding under his pillow, sitting up straight nervously. "What...what happened again? Let's talk this out..."
"What am I supposed to do?" Kushina's voice was icy cold as she walked into the ward, her gaze sweeping over the people on the beds. "No, I'd like to ask you—what exactly did you do?!"
Her voice suddenly rose, filled with unbelievable anger and questioning, as she lashed out at the Third Hokage, who lay motionless in the center of the hospital bed.
"You old geezer... tell me yourself! The Uchiha clan was wiped out—what does that mean?!"
