Chapter 19 The Magic Wand
Chapter 19 The Magic Wand
"Professor McGonagall, isn't Owen... a freshman like me?"
Driven by intense curiosity, the little witch finally asked, and Professor McGonagall smiled slightly: "He did enroll this year, but he can't really be considered a freshman. Hermione, if you want to make something of yourself in magic, you can ask Owen for advice on how to study after school starts."
"I will, Professor!"
After Hermione had bought most of her things, Owen came out of the bookstore with a satisfied expression on his face. Then, the two groups headed towards the wand shop.
"Honey, which hand do you have dominant?"
"Right hand."
Hermione picked up her wand quickly, choosing the one that best suited her in no time. When it was Owen's turn, he looked at Ollivander and said, "Sir, either my left or right hand is fine."
Ollivander smiled at him: "Mr. Owen, I've been waiting for this day for over a year. Please wait a moment."
After saying that, he went back to the back room, and after a while, he came out with a long box. When he opened the box and revealed its contents, Owen was dumbfounded...
"This is?"
"This is the wand that the great Dumbledore specially commissioned for you. It's 25.59 inches long, made of ancient Eastern lightning-struck wood, and its core is a unicorn's tail hair, a phoenix's tail feather, a dragon's heartstring, and a Lu Wu's back hair..." As he said this, Owen's eyes already looked strange. Ollivander noticed his expression and quickly explained, "Only these kinds of cores can support your magic. That's what Dumbledore said."
Ok……
Owen took the wand with both hands, and with a gentle wave, the room was filled with a dazzling rainbow.
The rainbow disappeared after a while, and Ollivander nodded in satisfaction. Although this wand did not conform to his design philosophy at all, it seemed quite suitable now.
Owen gestured a few times and realized that the wand was too long. If he put it down, it would block his cane at his current height, and if he raised it, it would be taller than him. So the most suitable way was to carry it on his shoulder.
Luckily, he had a pocket, so he put the wand in it.
The magic wand I've been longing for is finally mine!
Owen could feel that his magic had become much gentler when it passed through his wand. Many spells that he was not confident about casting before could now be cast easily through the wand, but he would have to try them when he got home; it wasn't appropriate now.
Moreover, the moment he touched it, Owen realized that his wand probably had some kind of mechanism, and he would have to go back and study it.
Aside from being a bit long, there's nothing wrong with it.
But while he was satisfied, Professor McGonagall, who had come with him, was not: "Such a long wand is very inconvenient."
Ollivander was also at a loss. He spread his hands and said, "There's nothing I can do. This is the maximum I can compress. Whether it's a unicorn, a dragon, or a Luwu, they all have their own personalities. To have these three cores contained in one wand, it would have to be made from the effects of a thousand-year-old lightning-struck wood."
Professor McGonagall thought for a moment, then shook her head. "That won't do. Let Owen choose a normal wand, something he'll be comfortable with, something he can use for studying, practicing, and potions."
Correct!
How could I have forgotten about that!
When learning to make potions, there is a very important step: stirring the potion with a wand. If I were to use this wand, wouldn't I have to stand on the table to stir it? And if the bottle opening is narrow, the wand might not even be able to get in.
"All right……"
This was indeed a matter, and just as Ollivander was about to begin again, Owen extended his hand: "Sir, you said that the wand chooses the wizard, and I'd like to give it a try."
"How do I try?"
"For example...like this..." Owen's gaze fell on the wands piled up all over the room. "My name is Owen Carrot. Which wand would like to become my partner? Jump into my hand."
After speaking, Owen subtly controlled the magic power within him, allowing some to leak outwards, and then...
The room was filled with wands, which rushed towards him and buried him alive.
Professor McGonagall was startled, then quickly waved her wands to return them to their places. When the little wizard reappeared, he was holding a wand and laughing.
"Dragonwood, phoenix tail feathers, thirteen inches..." Ollivander stared at the wand for a while, then suddenly laughed, "Alright, since it likes you so much..."
The first wand costs seven Galleons because of a subsidy, but the second wand requires full payment, even though Owen is a Hogwarts student, he still has to pay seventy-six Galleons.
Irving could still pay this amount, but after paying it, he was broke again. But it didn't matter; Gringotts was there. He could just come back before the start of the semester to get some living expenses. Oh, and he also needed to pay back the school for all the previous expenses...
"I've heard what Professor McGonagall said, but it's okay. There's still some time before school starts, and I'll study hard during this break. I won't fall too far behind you."
As they parted, the little witch suddenly said this, and Owen paused for a moment, then nodded vigorously: "Let's improve together."
Mr. Granger drove off, and Professor McGonagall placed her hand on the young wizard's head: "Looks like you're about to have your first friend?"
Irving smiled, his eyes narrowing. "Yes, Professor, hardworking and studious people should be friends, right?"
"right!"
Professor McGonagall laughed too. After taking the young wizard home, she left without even having a cup of tea. As the vice-principal, she was very busy.
Back home, Owen took out both of his wands and began testing them. The longer one was strong and sturdy, able to withstand his full magical output, while the shorter one was not so good. Although it was easy to use, Owen had to be careful to control his magical power at all times. If it exceeded 60%, the wand would probably explode.
But that's just right. After putting the magic suppressors back on, I won't need to use the Great Wand unless I'm risking my life.
The existence of a magic wand is indeed very necessary!
After using just a few spells, Owen understood why so many wizards couldn't use magic once they were without their wands.
It can regulate a wizard's magic, simplifying magic control by at least 80% while the spell is being recited!
Replace it with simpler data.
If using a wand to cast the Levitation spell requires ten mana to lift a chair, then using a wand to achieve the same effect would only require two mana.
What Owen was most concerned about was that some simple spells, if he had a wand, he wouldn't need to chant at all; he could just wave it and use it without any additional cost.
Is this the silent incantation?
When Irving came to his senses and saw the furniture floating all over the room, he quickly waved his hand again, and the furniture returned to its original position.
"Magic, it's really interesting!"
Before going to bed, Owen picked up "Standard Spells: Beginner" again and began to study it seriously. One reason was to review, and the other was to try to see if he could silently cast all the spells that he was supposed to learn in the first to third grades. If he could, he would start practicing multicasting.
Of course, the skill of casting spells without a wand should not be neglected; when practicing in the morning, it's fine to leave the wand behind.
