Chapter 33 Post-War
Chapter 33 Post-War
Beside an abandoned bridge arch, the three who had just earned the title of the Three Legendary Sannin looked at the three small, thin figures that had been silently following them not far away.
"Stop hiding, come out now."
Although Tsunade's voice was stern, it did not carry any murderous intent.
The shadows shifted, and three small, thin figures emerged, trembling. They were three children, soaking wet and emaciated.
The orange-haired boy who was leading the group approached the three ninjas and said in an almost pleading yet stubborn tone, "Please share some of our food."
Jiraiya looked at the three children, a thought struck him, and he put down the water bottle he was holding: "Where are your parents?"
The orange-haired boy lowered his head, his voice slightly hoarse: "He was killed by ninjas in this war."
The atmosphere instantly became heavy.
Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru were also ninjas and participants in this war.
"Take it."
Jiraiya didn't say much, but took out a packet of dry bread from his ninja tool bag and handed it over. "This is dry bread. It's a bit hard, but it'll fill you up."
Tsunade also took out her own portion and handed it to the boy.
Yahiko took the bread, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes, but he didn't eat it immediately. Instead, he turned and called out to the shadows:
"Nagato, Konan, come out. They don't seem like bad people."
Two smaller figures emerged. The red-haired Nagato and the blue-haired Konan exchanged a glance, looked timidly at the three powerful adults, and finally nodded before running towards the Sannin.
They took the remaining dry bread from Jiraiya and Tsunade, who were sitting down, and began to wolf it down.
A moment later, after the three ninjas had walked a distance, they discovered that the three children were following them at a distance that was neither too close nor too far.
Tsunade stopped and turned back with a hint of helplessness, saying, "We already gave you food, didn't we? We don't have any more food on us, so why are you still following us?"
In the rain, the little blue-haired girl remained silent.
She walked slowly to Tsunade with her hands behind her back, and then prepared to extend her hand.
Tsunade's eyes narrowed instantly. As a ninja who fought on the battlefield, her body reacted instinctively, and she subconsciously tried to back away and assume a defensive stance.
However, her shoulder was pressed down by a large, strong hand.
It is Jiraiya.
"Don't be nervous, Tsunade." Jiraiya shook his head, his eyes gently fixed on Konan. "She means no harm."
Tsunade paused for a moment before looking closely.
The girl's outstretched hand held no weapon, but a flower folded from food packaging paper.
Although it was slightly damp from the rain, the paper flower was still folded delicately and squarely, standing out vividly in the gloomy rain country.
"Thank you, this is a return gift." Xiao Nan stood in the rain, revealing a shy smile.
"It's origami... folded from bread wrappers, right?" Jiraiya recognized it immediately, his tone tinged with a touch of wistfulness.
As Tsunade looked at the flower, the ice of defensiveness in her heart instantly melted away.
Her voice softened, and she bent down: "Would you like to give this to us?"
Xiao Nan nodded vigorously.
Just then, Yahiko, who had been standing at the back, suddenly stepped forward, his eyes defiant: "Teach us ninjutsu! You're Konoha ninjas, right?"
The air froze instantly.
Orochimaru, who had been observing coldly from the sidelines, suddenly let out a sinister laugh.
"Should we kill these children?"
Orochimaru's voice was hoarse, and his golden vertical pupils held no pity, only absolute rationality and ruthlessness.
"I've seen many war orphans, and their fates are all tragic. Rather than letting them suffer hunger, cold, and the unknown in this cruel country, it might be better for these children to simply kill them here..."
"Stop talking, Orochimaru."
Jiraiya abruptly interrupted Orochimaru, his tone more serious than ever before.
He looked at the three children in front of him, their eyes clear yet full of longing, and the image of the devastation on this land flashed through his mind.
"You and Tsunade go back first." Jiraiya took a deep breath and made a decision. "I'll take care of these little ones for now."
"Huh?" Tsunade's eyes widened in disbelief. "Are you crazy? The war isn't over yet! You want to stay in enemy territory as a babysitter?"
"Let's wait until they are at least able to support themselves."
Jiraiya looked at Yahiko, his eyes gleaming with a light of "responsibility," "This can be considered a small act of atonement."
"But..." Tsunade hesitated, unable to finish her sentence.
"This must be fate."
Jiraiya approached Yahiko, knelt down, and patted Yahiko's thin shoulder with his broad hand, thinking to himself, "The Great Toad Sage's prophecy... might be right here."
"and……"
Jiraiya suddenly remembered something, turned to look at Nishikawa Toru and Namikaze Minato who were waiting for orders not far away, and scratched his head somewhat awkwardly:
"Oh, right, Tsunade, help me keep Minato and those two brats here too."
"As their teacher, I haven't taught them anything properly in the past few months. I'm really incompetent."
Jiraiya grinned: "Perfect, while I'm teaching these three kids, I'll also teach those two geniuses."
……
The moment of parting.
Fugaku Uchiha sat on a stretcher with his eyes covered by gauze, with Orochimaru and Tsunade beside him, who were preparing to escort him back to the village.
"Are you really not coming back with us?" Although Fugaku couldn't see, he still turned his head towards Nishikawa Toru and Minato.
"No, senpai." Nishikawa Tetsu stepped forward and draped a raincoat over Fugaku's shoulders. "Given your current condition, returning to the village for treatment is the top priority. Besides..."
Nishikawa Tetsu lowered his voice: "Your eyes are too important. It's safest for you to go with Orochimaru and Lady Tsunade. If we stay behind, we can actually help you avoid some of the watchful eyes from the shadows."
Fugaku was silent for a moment, then nodded.
Nishikawa Tetsu stepped forward and gently patted Fugaku on the shoulder. "Besides, given your current situation, the fewer people around you, the better. Once you return to the village, the battlefield you'll face will be far more dangerous than here. If we two ordinary people without any connections get involved, we'll only become your Achilles' heel."
Fugaku knew that Nishikawa Tetsu was right. The awakening of the Mangekyou Sharingan meant that he would become a thorn in the side of Konoha's higher-ups, and various forces, including the Hokage faction and clan elders, would be watching him closely.
"I see."
Fugaku took a deep breath, pulled out two scrolls bearing the Uchiha clan crest from his pocket, and tossed them to the two men.
"These are the Uchiha clan's secret techniques regarding the transformation of Fire Release chakra forms, as well as advanced shuriken throwing techniques. Even though you don't have Sharingan, don't embarrass me."
This is a closely guarded secret of the wealthy family, yet he's throwing it out like trash.
"Thank you, senpai." Minato accepted it carefully, his eyes filled with gratitude. "Your eyes... you must be healed."
"Hmph, you don't need to worry about that. And also..."
"Come back alive."
As expected of the Uchiha clan, he's got that old tsundere attitude the moment he opens his mouth.
"must."
As the carriage started moving, Orochimaru gave Nishikawa Tetsu a meaningful look, the cold gaze sending chills down Tetsu's spine.
But he didn't say anything, he just turned around and followed the group.
Tsunade waved at the two of them: "Take good care of that idiot Jiraiya!"
As the main force gradually disappeared into the horizon, the noisy battlefield finally fell completely silent.
"Alright! Stop watching!"
With the departure of the main force, only Jiraiya, Nishikawa Toru, Namikaze Minato, and the three orphans of Amegakure remained on the wilderness of the Land of Rain.
Jiraiya stood up, stretched, and resumed his carefree and unrestrained demeanor.
"Now that the main force has left, our Jiraiya Special Training Camp is officially established!"
He pointed to a cave in the distance:
"From today onwards, you will all obey my commands! Go, first fix that leaky hole, or no one will be sleeping tonight!"
Nishikawa Tetsu looked at Nagato, who had red hair and was hiding behind Yahiko, and a subtle smile appeared on his lips.
The three ninjas parted ways, and legend has it that they went their separate ways.
As for me, I remained at the turning point of history, standing beside God.
"Let's go, Minato." Nishikawa Tetsu patted his friend on the shoulder.
