Chapter 8 The Impoverished Witcher
Chapter 8 The Impoverished Witcher
On a moving car.
Cheng Lin, wearing a headset, sat in the passenger seat, edited a message on his phone, sent it, and then quietly waited for the call to come.
Soon, the phone rang.
"Master," Cheng Lin called out respectfully.
"Your suspicions are not without merit, but you underestimate the Shenwu Kingdom's control over visualization diagrams and visualization methods. Never underestimate the Shenwu Kingdom, which can stand alongside the Holy Alliance and the Four Kingdoms Alliance."
"What do you mean?" Cheng Lin asked cautiously.
"Report honestly and don't overthink it. Since he lives in the southern district of Moon Island, it means he must have connections with the Divine Martial Kingdom, and those connections are closer than ours. Don't provoke him."
"Understood." Cheng Lin nodded, and after hanging up the phone, he edited the message and reported it to the Martial Arts Alliance.
He received a reply shortly afterward.
"The Martial Arts Alliance has instructed us to proceed to the next inspection site to continue our mission," Cheng Lin said, turning to Li Hun and Tian Kun behind him.
"Yes," the two replied.
……
Two days later.
November 6, 348 AD, morning.
jingle……
Jiang Yanming was awakened by the somewhat jarring ringtone of his cell phone. He picked it up and saw that it was his second senior brother, Qin Wu, calling.
"Second Senior Brother, are the people from the Martial Arts Alliance coming?" Jiang Yanming stood up, holding his phone.
"It's not the Martial Arts Alliance," Qin Wu said in a low voice. "It's our senior brother who's back."
"So fast?" Jiang Yanming was surprised to hear this.
"That surprised me too," Qin Wu said. "My senior brother asked me to meet him, and I'm going to go see him."
"Won't there be any danger?" Jiang Yanming frowned slightly.
"Probably not," Qin Wu sighed. "Don't worry, I'll be careful. At worst, I'll get beaten up and end up with a broken bone or something."
"..." Jiang Yanming didn't know what to say.
"Wait for my message. I will tell my senior brother about your comprehension of profound truths," Qin Wu said. "I think he won't go too far once he finds out."
"Hopefully," Jiang Yanming shook his head helplessly. "Anyway, be careful."
"Okay," Qin Wu replied and hung up the phone.
Jiang Yanming has been having a fulfilling two days. He goes to Xinyue City University to do experiments every day, and when he comes back, he practices standing meditation and boxing to strengthen his physique.
He got out of bed and walked to the wardrobe to open it and get his clothes, but suddenly saw the reflection of an exquisite two-handed sword in the dressing mirror, and an unfamiliar memory flooded his mind.
"Again?" Jiang Yanming couldn't help but rub his temples as a throbbing pain shot through his head.
After a while, the throbbing pain in his head subsided.
"A Witcher?" Jiang Yanming sat back on the bed, sorting through the newly emerging memories, and couldn't help but mutter to himself, "Now they've given me an identity in a fantasy world?"
His new identity is that of a Witcher, who, as the name suggests, is someone who specializes in hunting monsters and creatures in the darkness.
It is worth mentioning, however, that as the last official Witcher of the Tiger faction among the Witchers, he never killed any monsters or demons.
The reason is simple: as the world's magical energy fades, the living space and number of monsters and demons have greatly decreased, and the surviving demons are extremely good at hiding their identities. At least he, a formal demon hunter, could not find any trace of demons in New Moon City.
"If we can't find the monsters, then so be it." Jiang Yanming turned his head and glanced at the exquisite two-handed sword hanging on the wall. He couldn't help but shake his head inwardly. "What era is this? We still use swords to hunt monsters?"
"With a physique comparable to a martial artist at the Forging Martial Arts level, can't you just use large-caliber pistols and automatic rifles?"
As Jiang Yanming felt his body grow stronger, he realized that the inhuman pain he had to endure when taking the physique-enhancing potion was worthwhile, as it made his body more robust and improved him in every aspect.
Balanced improvement is the hallmark of the Tiger Witcher.
In his memory, the Witchers were divided into five factions: the Tiger faction, representing balance; the Bear faction, representing physique; the Snake faction, representing agility; the Eagle faction, representing perception; and the Owl faction, representing wisdom.
The progenitors of these five factions of Witchers were all experimental creations of mages before magic completely disappeared, with the Owl Witchers possessing spell-like abilities.
"There really is magic... huh?" Jiang Yanming recalled the information from his memories, a look of astonishment on his face. "A mage escaped this world before the magic faded?"
Escape from the world—what a wonderful phrase.
According to the world map, Jiang Yanming can determine that he is on a planet. So, does the mage escape the world by taking a spaceship to leave this planet, or does he open a door like in the movies of his previous life and go in to reach the other side of the door?
"I guess the records of the demon hunters are exaggerated." Jiang Yanming shook his head, putting the matter of the mage out of his mind.
He continued to sort through his memories, looking for any potential trouble he might be in, but thankfully, the result was gratifying; he didn't encounter any problems.
After all, as a demon hunter, he had never killed a single monster or monster, nor had he ever discovered any trace of them, so how could there be any trouble?
"Finally, no trouble has come my way." Jiang Yanming said with a smile.
For someone who hates trouble, the feeling of having one problem unresolved only to be followed by another is extremely unpleasant.
"I also have a secret base..." Jiang Yanming thought back, his expression turning strange.
Because that so-called secret base is actually just a cheaply rented abandoned warehouse, and the address is near that godforsaken place in the South District. Aren't they afraid that everything in the base will be stolen?
The answer is, fear!
But the problem is, there's probably nothing we can do, because the Witchers are too poor!
Aside from mastering the skills to kill monsters and demons and having read some ancient books on witchers, he knew nothing else.
Having never attended school and been out of touch with society for many years, the fact that he was able to find a job instead of becoming a homeless person was thanks to the help of the Witcher Guild. Otherwise, a Witcher with a physique comparable to a martial arts master would have become a homeless person.
"It's still better to be a martial artist..." Jiang Yanming thought to himself.
Martial artists are recognized by the Four Nations Alliance. With their martial arts-level strength, they can join martial arts schools recognized by the Martial Arts Alliance and teach wealthy students stance training and boxing to improve their physical fitness, thus earning a considerable income.
"Should we go check out the secret base?" Jiang Yanming pondered.
The things stored in his secret base were mostly weapons and tools used for hunting monsters and demons. The truly valuable items were either in the Witcher's lair or had been brought to the Witcher's current residence.
"Forget it, there are no traces of monsters or demons in Crescent City, so the things in that secret base are useless." Jiang Yanming thought for a moment and finally gave up the idea of going to check it out.
jingle……
Jiang Yanming picked up his phone and saw that it was actually a rent payment reminder from the Demon Hunter's landlord.
"This is outrageous..." Jiang Yanming shook his head and sent a message asking the landlord to send over the bank account details.
After he settled the rent issue, he received a message on his phone that read: "Let's meet up, junior brother..."
