Chapter 3 The Hanged Ghost
Chapter 3 The Hanged Ghost
Those aren't leaves, though they look similar, but they're much heavier!
A bad thought popped into Li Yuan's mind: Could it be the tip of a shoe?
A corpse hanging from a tree is touching its own shoulder with the tip of its shoe!
Li Yuan shuddered, cold sweat breaking out all over his body. He dared not turn around, fearing that if he did, he would be confronted with that rotting corpse: a bluish-black, swollen face with its mouth wide open, as if roaring silently, a long tongue hanging down to its chest, and eyes rolled back, staring blankly and stubbornly at his back, like cold needles formed from resentment, piercing his spine one by one.
Li Yuan hurriedly swung his coin sword back, but still didn't hit anything.
Li Yuan didn't care about any of that and started jogging.
There was a thick layer of decaying leaves on the ground, and under the decaying leaves were depressions and branches. Li Yuanshen was walking slowly and dared not run fast.
After running for a while, Li Yuan sensed something was wrong; it was too quiet.
When he entered the woods, he felt it was very quiet; there was no wind or insect chirping, but he could still hear the rustling of his footsteps. Now, even the sound of his footsteps has disappeared.
Li Yuan realized that the trick had come! He didn't care about falling or not and sped up again.
In horror movies, it's not always quiet as soon as a ghost appears.
After running for a while, Li Yuan felt short of breath and had to slow down to catch his breath.
That's strange. Although he's not someone who works out regularly, he still exercises a little every week or two. He shouldn't be out of breath after just a few steps.
Li Yuan touched his neck in confusion. He felt something unusually rough, hard and prickly. What was that?!
Just as Li Yuan was about to investigate in surprise, a tremendous force suddenly appeared and pulled him into the air!
Li Yuan was instantly ripped off the ground like a radish and hung high in the air, swaying back and forth.
Li Yuan struggled violently in mid-air, the thing wrapped around his neck contracting continuously, with such force that it seemed to be trying to snap his neck.
The intense suffocation caused Li Yuan to open his mouth wide and roll his eyes back.
Li Yuan felt he was going to die.
This is the Injury Gate? This is the Death Gate!
Fortunately, Li Yuan did not lose his mind. He swung the money sword in his hand and slashed at his head!
With a thud, Li Yuan's body fell heavily to the ground.
Because of the decaying leaves, the fall wasn't very serious.
Li Yuan was breathing heavily, his brain still recovering from the lack of oxygen, and he felt a little dizzy, but he couldn't care less and forced himself to get up.
The moment he looked up, his still somewhat dazed vision revealed a scene that sent chills down his spine!
Countless corpses hung densely in the woods!
Those bodies hung straight down between the branches, their tongues stiff and protruding, their eyes rolled back, revealing a chilling white, as if pairs of empty eyes were staring intently at him, silently conveying some indescribable fear.
Suddenly, a hanged corpse moved—its rotting, decaying face slowly opened, the corners of its mouth twisting upwards into an extremely unnatural smile, as if welcoming a new companion, or mocking the powerlessness of the living.
This bizarre scene pierced his heart like a sharp blade, and Li Yuan felt a chill rush from the soles of his feet to the top of his head, as if he had fallen into an ice cave that had stood for millennia.
Li Yuan's scalp tightened. He suppressed his fear, picked up the treasure chest that had fallen to the ground, and rushed out of the woods.
Li Yuan wasn't going to give up on the treasure chests; he had to try anyway, because if he didn't get the first one, it would be even harder to get the rest.
The corpses gathered together, blocking Li Yuan's path.
"Gun!"
Li Yuan, of course, would not surrender without a fight. With a roar, he pulled a handful of cinnabar from the cloth bag at his waist and threw it over!
"Sizzle—sizzle"
When cinnabar touched a corpse, it made a sizzling sound like oil meeting water, and white smoke rose from the corpse.
Perhaps because of pain, the corpses moved aside.
But there were still many hanged corpses blocking the way, so Li Yuan grabbed several handfuls of cinnabar and scattered it as he ran.
When the 500 grams of cinnabar ran out, Li Yuan finally escaped the blockade of corpses.
Li Yuan breathed a sigh of relief and was about to speed up his escape when he heard a rustling sound behind him. He turned around and saw several hemp ropes crawling on the ground like snakes, quickly grabbing at him.
Wow, you can do this?!
Li Yuan was both shocked and frightened, and he accelerated as he ran frantically outside.
Li Yuan ran at his fastest speed ever, faster than the idiot who chased him to steal his takeout years ago. Suddenly, his expression changed and he quickly slowed down.
Without warning, a thick hemp rope was lowered from the tree in front, forming a huge circle, waiting for Li Yuan to crawl into it.
Li Yuan fled at full speed, unable and unwilling to stop. He could only turn around hastily, but the rope appeared too suddenly and he was caught in the rough rope around his neck.
Fortunately, Li Yuan reacted quickly. Seeing that he hadn't dodged, he didn't give the rope time to tighten and slashed directly with his money sword.
With a sizzling sound.
The rope was cut before it could be tightened.
But this delay allowed the rope behind to catch up.
A rope wrapped around Li Yuan's ankle and pulled him backward, causing him to fall to the ground, and the treasure chest in his hand also fell to the ground.
The rope pulled Li Yuan backward again, causing withered leaves to fly and dust to fill the air.
Li Yuan was pulled along the ground by a hemp rope, his trouser legs covered with broken leaves, and some branches even scratched his skin.
But given the urgency of the situation, Li Yuan had no time to worry about the pain.
Li Yuan reacted swiftly, hooking his hand onto a nearby tree. The dragging force immediately slowed, and Li Yuan seized the opportunity to lunge towards his ankle, slashing out with his coin sword.
It's sizzling!
The rope broke.
Before Li Yuan could get up, a hemp rope wrapped around the wrist of the hand holding the money sword.
Then a tremendous force pulled him backward.
Damn it.
Li Yuan cursed under his breath, grabbed another tree, and used his other hand to cut the rope with the money sword.
Just as he cut the rope, two more ropes wrapped around his ankles, one on the left and one on the right.
It's never going to end!
Li Yuan was furious after being dragged around repeatedly.
Li Yuan looked at the rope dragging him and was about to lash out, but his angry expression suddenly stopped and his face changed drastically!
He saw a tree on the path where he was being dragged!
Having trees is a good thing; he can still stop by using them.
Unfortunately, the two ropes were positioned on either side of the tree.
His feet were also bound by hemp rope on the left and right sides.
Good news: He can stop using the tree.
Even better news: You don't even need to use your hands!
But the bad news is: it might hurt a lot.
No, ghosts grabbing people also come with castration services?
He didn't want to end up childless like the will-o'-the-wisp boy!
As he got closer and closer to the tree, he squeezed his legs shut as tightly as he could, determined to break them even if they broke.
"Bang!"
Li Yuan's inner thigh slammed hard against the tree, causing a sharp pain, but thankfully he didn't break anything.
Li Yuan breathed a sigh of relief, clinging tightly to the tree, the rope still pulling him along.
Li Yuan bent down with all his might and swiftly cut the hemp rope with two sword strokes.
But as soon as one crisis was resolved, another one began.
Li Yuan suddenly felt a tightness around his neck! The hemp rope had silently slipped around his neck again.
Li Yuan remained calm and casually swung his sword to cut the hemp rope. He had become quite adept at it after being trapped many times.
Li Yuan quickly stood up from the ground, ready to run, but found himself surrounded by corpses again.
You don't want me to live, do you?
Li Yuan was enraged and slashed at the surrounding corpses with his sword.
The corpse recoiled in pain and tried to move away, but new corpses quickly surrounded it.
Li Yuan knew that things couldn't continue like this; he would eventually be exhausted to death here.
Li Yuan's mind raced as he searched for a way to break the deadlock. His gaze swept over the hemp rope he had cut on the ground, and a flash of inspiration struck him.
He bent down, grabbed the last of the cinnabar from the bag, and scattered it around to repel the corpse.
He quickly grabbed the five-emperor coins from his pocket and put them into the cloth bag, then tied the hemp rope to the bag and waved it around.
The five coins from the cloth bag can still function even when they hit a corpse.
Li Yuan held the coin sword in one hand and wielded the Five Emperors' Coin Bag in the other. With the Five Emperors' Coin Bag, his attack range was greatly increased, allowing him to attack the hemp rope on the ground. As long as he kept his eyes on the hemp rope, he wouldn't be afraid of being dragged back.
These corpses only block the way and haven't shown any other means of attack. Defending against the rope will make things much easier.
Li Yuan fought and retreated, slowly fighting his way out from among the corpses.
He didn't choose to run, because running would make it difficult to observe the situation behind him.
Taking this slow and cunning approach will actually make it harder for him to do anything about it.
If you panic and rush headlong forward, you'll definitely be dragged back.
Li Yuan quickly arrived at the spot where his ankles had been entangled by the rope; the treasure chest had fallen there.
Li Yuan was too busy with both hands to take the treasure chest, but he didn't want to leave it behind, so he kicked the treasure chest and made it slowly roll forward.
After wielding both weapons, the corpses and ropes were unable to do anything to Li Yuan for the time being. After all, it was only the first ghost land, and they were not strong, just minor monsters. They could only watch as Li Yuan walked little by little out of the black forest.
Li Yuan arrived at the edge of the Black Forest and could see his black car through the trees, which made him happy.
It's finally out!
The corpses and ropes remained deep within the Black Forest, seemingly unable to reach its outer edge.
As Li Yuan was about to leave the Black Forest, the rotting corpse of the hanged man showed an unhappy expression, especially after Li Yuan gave them the middle finger, which made him even more unhappy.
Li Yuan threw away the broken hemp rope around his neck, grabbed the treasure chest, and quickly returned to the carriage.
