Chapter 433 Today Is The Day I End My Journey
"You know many people came to this place to seek refuge. It's the only place they can afford without the strict laws of the authorities, and you just destroyed half of it."
Saint sat cross-legged in a building while Percival and Lucy were opposite him, also sitting on the floor.
There were no sofas, chairs, or tables in this small building.
Lucy lowered her head when she heard what the old man said.
"She's not in control of her summon." Percival defended with a firm tone.
Saint nodded. "I saw that. But I've seen what you did to an island close to Manhattan. With your current strength, you could wash Manhattan and other cities like Queens and Staten Island clean with the ocean. Millions are gone the moment you decide to go crazy."
Percival squinted when Saint glanced at him.
"You don't know what happened to him." Lucy retorted with a sharpened gaze.
"True…" Saint turned to her. "Doesn't change the fact that during that fight on that island, thousands of families that had nothing to do with it died."
"I remember someone around his age who blew his hometown into smithereens, killing his parents and siblings before it occurred to him that maybe, just maybe, he should have considered those families who were casualties when he fought."
Saint maintained his focus on Percival.
"I feel like I stare at the embodiment of water itself. That's a lot of potential for a human being, if you're still one. As beautiful as the sea is, when it rages, it has no friends. One day, you'll drown her beneath that raging tide, and you'll search your endless vastness but won't be able to find her. Maybe you will in the end, but what you'll see is—"
"He's not you!" Lucy snapped, then faced Percival. "Why aren't you saying anything?!"
Percival glanced at her and smiled softly. "Because I see what he's doing."
His smile was sad but soothing.
"Look at you now."
Lucy blinked.
Saint chuckled. 'Quite a young man. I was indeed trying to see her depth, to determine if the Obsidian had completely taken over, but it seemed she can still care and fight for another. But the boy refused to say I was also warning him.'
"You said you can kill the Obsidian without killing her. How?"
Percival jumped to the old man's statement that brought them here in the first place.
"It's not that hard. To kill the Obsidian is to kill the source of its strength. Jealousy and such emotions can't be tossed aside when you want; it takes enlightenment, but in this case, something external."
"Like what?" Percival asked. There was light at the end of the tunnel; he could only reach out for it with all of his strength.
"In the Afterlife World, there are two beings born of the emotions of the dead. Obsidians and Exalted. The Obsidians are born from what I call negative emotions and exist in the Realm of the Damned. In the Realm of the Exalted, the Saints are born. Those Saints can cure her."
The old man paused, and two diagrams flared up at his left and right sides. Two huge creatures whose heads almost scraped the rafters emerged, and both of them crouched.
On his right was a majestic white lion with dull orange eyes and a handsome mane. On the left was a leopard with golden strands flowing out of its body.
Like longer extensions of some of its fur. Just the soft gaze of the leopard made Percival and Lucy feel refreshed.
"This is Brave." Saint caressed the lion. "His bravery knows no bounds, and he can withstand almost any blow. His Brave Blast has helped me win several battles, and I also lost my close ones using that same skill."
He caressed the leopard, and it purred softly.
"This is Burning Confidence. A Saint, one of the Guardians of the Realm of the Exalted, born out of the unmatched confidence of many. She clears doubt, fosters self-worth, self-love, and contentment. Jealousy dies where she thrives. Once imprinted, you can go for hours or even a day or two without that Obsidian manipulating your mind."
Percival and Lucy looked at themselves.
"So we only have to keep coming back here every two days?"
"That's not bad. I can do it." Lucy said after Percival spoke.
Saint shook his head.
"This is the last time you'll see me here. I have some kind of feud with an eighth-generation ancient god."
Saint's eyes flashed.
"Demons."
"In fact, one of them will be here soon. You see, there's a countdown. When the time comes, I face a new foe, stronger than the last. I've already been poisoned, which is why I've grown this old."
Saint chuckled. "The reason I wasn't furious at the destruction you caused is because this place will cease to exist by the end of today."
He lifted up his hand, and Percival, who was about to speak, paused.
"You can't help me. Try, and you'll infuriate a demoness. You know they call them ancient gods because for countless years no other world has managed to survive the Ruination. I have no hope for Earth either."
"However, I saw something in you that I haven't seen before. I'm willing to transfer the Saint of Burning Confidence to you. Treat Mia well; she's been more than a friend."
"Wait!" Lucy replied frantically.
"Don't try to be empathetic. You'll be cut down by your friends or live to see yourself become the worst thing imaginable if you don't have Mia by your side. With her, that Obsidian will become a powerful summon completely under your control, and she won't be able to manipulate you any longer. I also don't want Mia to follow me to the next warfront. Death isn't the end; I shall continue this battle in the afterlife."
Saint said calmly.
"Some demons are persistent. They won't stop. They keep growing until you cut them down and cut them permanently. I can't do that while suppressed to the level of a demigod. In the Afterlife, I shall be free. But today is the day I end my journey on Earth."
