042 Teacher Yu
042 Teacher Yu
On Saturday and Sunday mornings, fewer people call ride-hailing services than on other days, especially early in the morning. Yu Wenhao can sleep in and doesn't have to get up so early. Most importantly, he wants to spend these two mornings with Qianqian and let Cao Fang relax a bit.
Around 7 o'clock, there was a rustling sound at the bedroom door, and then the door was pushed open, and Qianqian walked in wearing a school uniform and carrying a schoolbag.
Yu Wenhao got up to look around and immediately exclaimed, "Oh my, Qianqian is up so early! Okay, I'll get up right away too. Wait for me a moment."
She turned and walked out, closing the door behind her.
Yu Wenhao quickly sat up and started getting dressed. Cao Fang, who was next to her, also sat up. Yu Wenhao said:
"You should sleep a little longer."
Cao Fang shook her head: "I'll get up and make breakfast."
"I can do it," Yu Wenhao said.
"You should focus on your class, Teacher Yu. Qianqian is getting impatient," Cao Fang said, and the two of them laughed.
Qianqian couldn't go to school, but she longed to be one, to be a primary school student. Her school uniform was bought for her by Yu Wenhao's father from their school, Yongcheng No. 1 Primary School. Qianqian treasured this uniform; every morning, she would put it on, pack her schoolbag, and walk around the house.
From Monday to Friday, Cao Fang would use the time before going to work in the morning to teach her half a class, then another half class at noon, followed by a nap. She would teach her two classes every evening; she was Teacher Cao for Qianqian. On Saturdays and Sundays, Yu Wenhao, while being a father, would also take on the role of Teacher Yu.
Qianqian was very diligent. Whenever she had class, she would always wear her school uniform and sit upright at her desk. There was a set of desks and chairs in their living room, which I had gotten from a factory in Yongcheng that produced desks and chairs. There was a whiteboard on the wall, and Teacher Cao and Teacher Yu would stand in front of the whiteboard to teach Qianqian.
Qianqian never missed a single quiz, midterm, or final exam. Her grandfather would send the test papers from Yongcheng by express mail, and she would take the exams three days later than the students at Yongcheng No. 1 Primary School.
If Qianqian hadn't gotten sick, she would be in the second semester of second grade now. She's been studying at home until the second semester of second grade, keeping pace with her peers. After each exam, Yu Wenhao's grandfather would call to tell Qianqian where her grades would rank if she were at Yongcheng No. 1 Elementary School.
Qianqian has never fallen out of the top ten in her grade. This makes her grandparents and parents very proud of her.
Yu Wenhao walked into the living room and saw that Qianqian was already sitting at her desk. Yu Wenhao quickly turned on the air conditioner in the living room.
Yu Wenhao asked:
"Qianqian, shall we have Chinese or math class first today?"
She chuckled softly, "Let's start with Chinese, Teacher Yu."
Yu asked, "Okay, so what lesson did you finish yesterday?"
She said softly, "Lesson eleven."
"Shall we start lesson twelve today?"
She nodded slightly.
They were having class here. Cao Fang was making breakfast in the kitchen. After she finished making breakfast, she came over and told them that get out of class was over and they should eat breakfast first.
The three of them went to the restaurant, finished breakfast, and then Qianqian immediately returned to the living room, sat down at her desk, and prepared to continue her class.
Yu asked Qianqian what he had to say about something important. Instead of continuing his lesson at the whiteboard, he sat down on the sofa and greeted her.
"Qianqian, come here. Daddy has something to tell you."
At this moment, he transitioned from the role of teacher to that of father. Qianqian walked over, sat down next to Yu Wenhao, took off her shoes, climbed onto the sofa, and leaned against Yu Wenhao.
Yu Wenhao stroked Qianqian's head and said to her:
"Qianqian, Daddy wants to talk to you about something. Tell Daddy your truest thoughts, what you really think, okay?"
She nodded slightly, sat up straight, and turned to look at Yu Wenhao.
Yu asked, "Mom and Dad want to have another baby, a little brother or a little sister, what do you think?"
Qianqian paused for a moment, then immediately asked, "Dad, don't you like me anymore?"
Yu Wenhao's heart skipped a beat, and she felt a tightness in her chest. She hadn't expected that Qianqian and Diandian would have the same thoughts. It seems that for young children, their thoughts are very simple. Whenever their parents want to have another little brother or sister, their first reaction is, "Do my parents not love me anymore?"
Just like themselves, when a toy gets old and boring, what they want most is a new toy.
Yu Wenhao shook his head and said, "Of course not. Even if a little brother or sister comes along, Mom and Dad's love for Qianqian will not diminish at all."
She lowered her head slightly and fell silent. Yu Wenhao asked, "What's wrong? Don't you believe your father?"
"I believe you," she said softly, though her tone was still hesitant.
Yu Wenhao said, "Qianqian, Dad just told you that you can tell Dad whatever you're thinking."
Qianqian looked up at Yu Wenhao and asked, "Then, after we have a younger brother or sister, do I have to give them my toys, school uniform, and backpack? Mom only cooks one fish at a time, so after we have a younger brother or sister, does that mean they can eat fish and I can't?"
This idea of Qianqian's was somewhat unexpected, yet also within Wenhao's expectations. Wenhao said:
"You're so silly. Mom is only making one fish now because you're the only child. If I had a younger brother or sister, I would make two. Every child has their own school uniform and backpack. Of course, the younger siblings will use their own, not yours!"
She smiled faintly.
Yu asked, "Tell Daddy if you like a little brother or sister?"
"I like little girls, but I don't really like little boys."
Why?
"I can braid the little girl's hair and dress her in pretty floral clothes."
As she spoke softly, Yu Wenhao laughed.
Yu Wenhao believes that children know far more than adults think. Even if adults don't tell them, they learn a lot just by listening to them.
Through repeated experiences, even Qianqian knows that she is waiting for a matching donor. As long as the matching is successful, her illness will be cured, and she can go out to play like other children, carry her schoolbag to school, and do radio calisthenics neatly with so many other children on the playground every morning.
Yu Wenhao decided to tell Qianqian their true thoughts about having a second child.
Yu Wenhao said to Qianqian, "If you have a little brother or sister, they will be our family's angels. There is a high chance that their bone marrow will be a perfect match for yours. If that happens, your brother or sister can help cure your illness."
Qianqian lowered her head again and remained silent. After a while, she raised her head, and Yu Wenhao was startled. He saw that Qianqian's eyes were red and filled with tears. Yu Wenhao hurriedly asked:
"What's wrong, Qianqian?"
She shook her head slightly and said, "Daddy, I don't want a little brother or sister anymore."
Why?
"If we need to do a transplant, they'll use such a big needle to poke it in here. It will hurt a lot, and I don't want my little brother and sister to suffer," Qianqian said, crying.
Qianqian had used a bone marrow aspiration needle before, and she knew that bone marrow extraction was very painful.
